I just saw TGWTDT last night. I also saw the Swedish versions and read them. Did you read them? How did you think the Fincher version compared to the Swedish? I am conflicted.

I really enjoyed both. I watched the Swedish version of TGWTDT on 12/23, and saw the other one in the theatre on 12/27. I thought the Fincher version was truer to the book in some respects, not so in other respects.
Once I finish a book, I tend to forget little details, so I really had to give some thought to things that were different. For example, didn't Martin deliberately drive his car into a truck? They changed that in both versions. Also, I'm not sure why harriet's whereabouts were different in both movies.

My mom has seen both and preferred the US version since it was truer to the book. She didn't like how little Erika was in the Swedish version.
She saw the US version first and I wonder if that colored it.
I plan on seeing the US one soon.

Even having seen them so closely together, the American version did not suffer in comparison to the Swedish version. In fact, I thought the American version was darker and moodier in cinematography, which surprised me.
Also, I want Martin's house. Not to live in, but maybe for a 2-week vacation.
Ok, so I just saw the US version earlier today and I like it way better than the foreign film too. They don't touch on how intimate Blomkvist and Lisbeth really were and completely left off the ending. I don't understand why they changed the Harriet/Anita story. I can only think to save some time? The US version is quite long. I was surprised. I also prefer the casting in the US film. Lisbeth is a lot more likeable in the US film and Craig as Blomkvist really captures his laid back attitude more than the foreign film. I did not, however, care for the opening sequence. But I suppose Fincher had to leave his weird stamp somewhere.

I don't even remember what was in the opening sequence, I just remember thinking WTF during it.
I think the change of Anita/Harriet at the end was pretty inconsequential in terms of the whole series, so I am sure that they did it to save time. It's really the only markable deviation from the book that I could remember.
The opening sequence was a sliced overview of all 3 books. I was alo wtf?
His affair with Cecilia was also missinf

Oh, you're right. I forgot about that. I don't remember martin's married woman fling in the books. Is that my bad memory or did they randomly throw that in?
