How much time to send a thank you?
My mom called last night and among the things she complained about, she said my aunt was upset because she hasn't gotten a thank you yet for the gifts she gave us for Xmas. It's only been one week since Xmas, and actually the card was already written out but not mailed.
I can see if it was a month, but please tell me a week to 2 after isn't out of line before receiving a thank you note.
Re: How much time to send a thank you?
I can't imagine being upset after 1 week??! I think even getting them out at 2 weeks after Christmas is an accomplishment.
I'd say as long as Christmas thank you cards are sent in December or January there is no reason people should think it is late!
I'm really bad. I usually send an email or text thank you. So, it does get there pretty quickly
However, thank yous in my book aren't a requirement. You give a gift because YOU want to. Not because you expect anything.
Ugh! I never understand that, I think thank you notes are great - but if you're just going to sit around and get frustrated at the speed at which the note comes, just skip the gift altogether!
About 2 weeks after XH's and my wedding reception I r'cd a phone call from my MIL saying one of their family friends was upset that they had not yet gotten a thank you note from us. I was so frustrated, but also a little pissed at my MIL for thinking I should have had all of my 100+ notes written already, ridiculous!
I don't even do written thank you notes for holidays and birthdays. I call and say thank you or, if the person gives it in person, tell them thank you. I agree, if it's all about the Thank You note and it's that big of a deal, don't bother with the gift.
That said, one week expectation is ridiculous for turn around. I agree 4-6 weeks.
