Bad business review (v. long)

So I'm back until I fly out tomorrow for a funeral.  And we are lucky we made it.  A while back there was a groupon for a one-way or round-trip fare with Denver Lincoln Limousine.  I jumped on that, knowing we were traveling for the holidays.  We booked our time, no problemo, and they took note of our flight time.  7 am pickup for a 9:25 flight.

Problem:  flight was Dec 22, which, you may recall, had a lovely snowfall that morning and lots the night before.

DH and I were worried and DH was going to call to see if they could come earlier.  I agreed but said we should ready ourselves almost completely first as it made zero sense to have anyone waiting.  We got closer to 7 and got nervous.  DH finally called a few minutes before 7 and got what had to be the most vapid operator ever.

"Hi this is _____ and just calling to confirm you all ARE coming to pick us up.  Yes, it's 7 am."

"I'm not sure."

"What do you mean?"

"I don't know where the drivers are."

Silence.  "Well, can you check?" DH bit out.

"Um, sure, hold on."  Wait for a bit.  "Well, 5 of our drivers called in because they are snowed in and the other 3 have been working since 2 am and are all on their way to the airport with clients now."

"You're kidding me.  So no one is coming to pick us up?"

"uh, no, they are all with other clients now so it will be a while."

"Yes, but then we miss our flight.  Cancel it.  Cancel it all.  This and the pick up from the return flight."

"The return too?"

"Yes.  Now I'm hanging up because I have to get to the airport in a hurry no thanks to you."

Luckily made it to the airport in time but ended up having to park in the garage (no way would DH have made the plane otherwise but major $$$ we hadn't planned on).  Heard NOTHING from this company.

Until today.  10 days later when we returned and they called to say they had a car waiting, just in case we wanted it.  "uh, no, we cancelled when we had to drive ourselves because you flaked.  Why would we need a car service now?"  Hung up.  THEN they call right back.  After we have just landed and are busy trying to get to our bags.  To see what they can do about "making it right" and comping up future trips.  Um, how about not flaking in the first place or calling us at 6 am when you could SEE that you weren't going to make it or calling us the same day or next day to ask us the same question about making it right?

Seriously, I am AMAZED they are in business.  Needless to say, wrote to groupon to cancel the groupon and get my money back.  But word to wise on that business if that is how they operate.  Sheesh.

Re: Bad business review (v. long)

  • That totally sucks.

Though I was hoping it was a bad review for Vitamin Cottage because we could really use some entertainment around here.

  • Yikes!

I'm starting to learn that many businesses don't treat you the same if you have a Groupon (or similar type coupon deal).  They should be using the opportunity to make you rave about their business but instead they don't treat you well because they aren't making much (or any) profit from your business.

K, thanks for the morning laugh.  I almost spit out my coffee!

And it does amaze me how some people can stay in business when they treat their customers so poorly or have such shoddy operating practices.  At least Groupon will allow you get your money back to help you recoup some of the expenses for having to park in the garage.

  • Thanks for making me feel better for missing out that Groupon, I was actually bummed. And sorry you had such a hassle!
  • ::Lurker here:: What's wrong with Vitamin Cottage? I've started getting stuff there for DD (she has food allergies) and their prices are way better than Sunflower.
OP, sorry you guys had such a horrible experience with the driving service!
someecards.com - I'm well on my way to getting absolutely nothing done today.
