@ and this is why I'm a nerd

I just got an Ergo on eBay for $75 and I am sooooo excited! I cannot wait to get it!

And a question: infant insert, necessary for my 9 pound 2.5 month old? Guessing yes but don't want to spend the money if I don't need to.

Re: @ and this is why I'm a nerd

  • How good is his head control? I stopped using the Ergo insert when DD was able to hold her own head up.

He can hold his head up for maybe 30 seconds to a minute at a time.
  • Hmmm... that's iffy. If I knew where my infant insert was and I wasn't in the middle of organizing an international move, I would just send you mine. There has to be someone around you locally just dying to give the insert away for free. I wouldn't pay more than $5 for it when you're only likely to use it for a few weeks.

I'd look for one used if you can. I used it with V until like 4 or so months mostly because even though she could hold her head up, it was still wobbly and when I was walking it would be hard for her to remain steady, you know? It is adaptable because you can use it with their feet tucked in when super small but also sit their bottom on the pad part with legs out when the outgrow that position.

  • I have heard you can use a rolled up towel instead of the insert.

  • I'd get the insert. Not only does it support his bum & spine, it also helps keeping his head from rolling this way and that.  I pink-puffy-heart my Ergo and have used it since the day K was born - we still use it regularly (and he's almost 18 months).

I had heard the towel thing too, but in my mind that doesn't do the same thing...sure it holds them higher up but the insert is like a support for the head, and when v would fall asleep and her head woudl loll back it would hold it up.

Good to know! We never used the ergo until after 4 months, I love, love, love a sling or wrap for a newborn.

  • We got our Ergo when DD was 3 months, she could of used the insert because, although she could hold her her up fine she had a bad habit of throwing it back. Now at 6 months there is no issue but now I'm missing a sleep hood on my baby hawk :(
