restaurant recommendation for a group
A few college friends plan to get toegther for dinner. We don't get to see much of each other anymore. We'll be coming from all over from NY to MD. Philly seems to be in the middle.
Can anybody please recommend a good, mid-priced restaurant with a varied menu and decent wine list in or near Center City for a group of about 10-12 women? We would rather not eat at a chain (TGI Fridays, Applebees etc.) If we wanted that we'd just go meet at King of Prussia Mall. BYO could be an option.
By mid-priced I mean entrees averging no more than about $20 each; less would be even better but I'm not going to get my hopes up on that one.
TIA
Re: restaurant recommendation for a group
Somewhere mid range (but a LOT better than the chain places you mentioned) are the Marathons. We like Marathon on the Square. Full bar, pretty varied menu and relatively inexpensive. It's not where we would go for a special night out, but could be fun for a bigger group.
Smokin' Betty's is also fun for larger groups.
Then there's Continental (Rittenhouse side of town) or somewhere like Mission Grill?
All decent, fun, not terribly expensive and can handle a large'ish group. Mission Grill does restaurant.com vouchers which may be worth looking out for.
If you want to get a bit fancier, take a look at Parc and maybe Buddakhan. I'm sure other people will have lots more ideas.
Another good one is Audrey Claire, but they may not take reservations. You could call and ask since you have a large group.
the problem with Starr Corp places (El Vez, Buddakan, etc) is that they often push you into a set menu for your group of 10 or more. It is kind of annoying.
Bistrot La Minette might be able to do a private dinner in their back room for 12 people - set menu (but delicious), family style french farm type cuisine.
how about the new Walnut Supper Club? The waiters sing!
