TT: Charles character or caricature?
Of course we only see Charles from vinnie's pov, but to me he was a complete caricature except for the conversation with the bleeker's where he says that they have no idea how he feels. I don't believe that Vinnie could have spent so much time with Charles and really seen I'm in such a one dimensional way. Was her view of Charles believable to you? Why do you think Benjamin painted such a portrait of Charles?

Re: TT: Charles character or caricature?
He really seemed like a prop that she tolerated in this portrayal. I don't know that she truly saw him in such a one dimensional way as she just didn't bother seeing him at all.
I felt like she married him because she knew it would be best for her career and because she truly believed that love was never going to be an option for her.
I think she had a habit in general of treating people as who she wanted them to be rather than as who they were. Minnie is a perfect example, where she didn't realize until too late that her sister was no longer a child that needed her protection.
With Charles, I think her problem was her own superiority complex. She always wanted to be recognized as more than just a small person, and she saw him as being below her because for him the singing and dancing was secondary to his size. I think he was likely a lot more interesting and business-savvy than she gave him credit for, but her need to be in control wouldn't allow her to recognize that in him.
