Diick Clark NYE

We only tuned into the NYE coverage around 11:45. Did Diick Clark make an appearance at any point?

Re: Diick Clark NYE

  • he gave the final countdown...

  • Yeah the countdown, then about 10 minutes after he kinda "talked to" the nation. It was VERY awkward and we all felt so horrible for him. I don't know how he's functioning. He almost cried. ughhhh
  • He was on throughout the whole time. They would cut to him every other segment or so and he'd talk for a few seconds.

I feel so bad for him when he's up there.  I'm glad that he wants to do it.. but yea, it's just awkward.  Sad

  • Honestly I found it more difficult watching the talent-less Jenny McCarthey.

What was with her making out with the random 20 something year old cop???

And Diick Clark co-hosts (with Ryan Seacrest) the 30 minutes leading up to the countdown. Its obvious his speech has improved greatly in the past 4 years. I think its wonderful that he still wants to be a part of it.

I agree. This is the first year I thought he actually looked more comfortable hosting.

I agree as well. He looked greatly improved. It was good to see.

  • I guess we must've missed him, then ... we were flipping around between a few different channels, plus we had friends over so we were chatting most of the time.

I remember feeling SO bad for him the first time he was at the NYE broadcast after his stroke, poor guy. But it was nice to see him get a bit better every year after that. Good for him for pushing forward.

  • Every year my H asks me why he still does it and I say it's because he's an institution.  I mean, is it awkward?  Yes.  But people have strokes and it's amazing how far he's come.  Good for him!
    Anniversary
  • Maybe it also gives him something to work toward and look forward to every year. I'm sure a lot of people who are sick would rather do something (or at least make the attempt) than sit around and do nothing.

Agreed.  I give mad props to his speech and occupational therapists.  They're doing a great job.

  • Eek I'm not saying he shouldn't do it, it's great he has something he looks forward to. I just thought the way it was set up was odd, in addition to his condition. When I watched it, he was sitting alone at the desk with Ryan Seacrest off to the side. Just weird.

    Mostly it made me sad.

  • My husband was saying that he thought being the 40th year that maybe this is his last year.

I thought he looked like a cheeto.

    Cheeto, LOL.

Yeah that fake tan was disturbing. I mean how old is he? Does he really need to tan at that age?!  He did sound alittle better and looked heathier but the tan wasn't doing him any favors.

  • I thought he sounded better too. It has to be incredibly hard to recover from a stroke and do so on national television. But the fake tan... Geez!
