First time posting, but I am at a loss as to what to do with this:
Christmas morning, at the breakfast table surrounded by most of H's family (with the exception of H himself who has walked into the next room for something) and my MIL turns, puts her arms around our 10 year old neice's shoulders and starts with the "so...how's the baby making coming?". I smile politely and say "fine". She's say's "oh, so you're trying then?". Me: smile politely and attempt to evade. Her, while still holding onto the poor neice: "So, you're having sex without condoms then?".
In what universe is that question ever appropriate? I told my husband later that the next time she asks another question that is so far out of the realm of her business that I'm going to ask her if she wants to sniff me! Obviously, that's not really very appropriate either, but I really can't think of what would be an appropriate response to her question.
Re: MIL Inappropriate comments
None of your business would have put an end to that conversation rather quickly.
K... thats kind of creepy. I'd like to think I would have called her out on being completly inappropriate right then and there, but I probably would have just gone into shock and not been able to move.
Good luck with that crazy ass.
Trying to think from her side.... maybe she thinks 10 is the new 16 and this neice should have heard the comment that no condoms means you make a baby? I dunno.... still not her place.
I would tell DH to call her out on it and make she she doesn't make you feel awkward like that again.
"Oh no, we've always just used the Pull and Pray method, but now DH isn't pulling anymore." Turn to niece" What method are you using?"
This just made me LOL.
Seriously though....who says something like that? And totally creepy (and completely wrong) to not only say it in front of everyone, but to put an arm around the 10 year old and say that. Jeeezzzzzzz
This is exactly what H said he was going to say if he heard her mention pregnancy again!
I was simply so shocked by the whole situation that I was incapable of responding at all at the time. She's definately getting an earful next time, and I'm tempted to throw in a visual aid for good measure!
