January sucks

Just throwing it out there. It's effing cold out - supposed to feel like the single digits by this afternoon. And on my walk to work today I passed a rat lying on the street bleeding and in the process of dying. Happy New Year! Bah humbug.

Re: January sucks

  • it is really cold today, I guess I shouldn't complain since the weather this winter has been pretty mild so far. but BRRRRRR!

Poor rat, but look on the bright side, he's having a worse January than you!

  • Fukking dramatic rats.  I'm anticipating some post holiday blues at some point.  I think I need to start planning some sort of trip/vacation to prevent that. That always seems to help.  On the plus side, I won an auction for an indoor parking spot at work for the month of January (our garage is tiny and reserved for executives).  That's $150 very well spent.

  • My morning has not been as bad.  James tooted on my lap on the bus this morning, but I don't think that competes with "dying rat" in the suckiness department.

We have 2 big visits coming up in January (we're going to see my parents, and then 2 good friends are coming to see us).  I think that's softening my end-of-holiday letdown.

  • I'm really not looking forward to the commute home tonight, it is going to be frigid.

I think I'm definitely going to have some post holiday blues, so I'm glad we've got vacation plans in the works.  We have a weekend to San Diego coming up in February for a wedding, and we are going to take a two week trip to Spain and Portugal in April/May, just need to nail down the dates now that we are back at work.

Speaking of work, it's kinda weird around here.  There's a reorg a-comin' any day now, so everybody is in a bit of a holding pattern.  Normally I like down time, but this is not the time of year that I usually expect it and it's not fun down time.  I'm 99% sure I will be fine with whatever changes are in store, but it is still unsettling.

  • I am not looking forward to today (or January for that matter) because I have so much effing work to do and I really should have worked more over the break. I'm so worried about getting everything done I have been awake since 3:30. Yippee!

At least it's not very cold here. In fact, I may ride my bike to work.

  • This post makes me think, I'm not sure I've ever noticed post holiday blues.

Kevin and I had a nice long talk last night and it turns out the whole sleep/noise thing with Connor was really more of a symptom of other frustrations. I feel much better now that we got everything out there and resolved. Plus, there was some extra hot makeup (even though we weren't exactly fighting) sex after. January does not suck then.

  • Oh, and to counter the nasty rat story, about a week or so I was running and I saw a bloody rabbit head. No body, just a head. It was very strange.

  • When I was 8, I was walking home one day and found a squirrel in the process of dying so I covered it with a paper that was nearby on the ground. I walked past the spot every day and it was always uncovered again and I would recover it as it went through various stages of decay. Eventually there was nothing left but a stain which I continued to cover. It's shaped me into the woman i am today.
  • I'm really bummed that my brother is headed back to Michigan, and I won't see him again until probably the summer. I miss him. That was the saddest part of the holidays ending to me.

That explains a few things :)

  • January is a mixed bag for me so far.  All houseguests are gone, our house is clean and all signs of Christmas are packed up.  However, upon waking the kid up this morning, he was sluggish and moody.  I figured it was just a first day of the week thing.  Five minutes later he was puking.  My H is feeling icky too.  We just had the stomach suck in our house a few weeks ago.  Not again!!!

ETA - Oh yeah, and it will be near 70 here on Thursday.  Yay!

  • Winged, how very strange yet respectful of you.

  • I also got lots of pretty new clothes for Christmas that I cannot wear because it randomly decided to be in the 40s today. WTF?

  • 'Scuse me, Lindsay and November (& TSD, though she's not in this post), you forgot to mention the highlight of meeting me at the end of January. Light at the end of the tunnel, my friends.

This is what's getting me through. I'm not joking.

Me too. I'm dying to get out of here for a few days.

  • Its like 83 here this week.  Not that I can really enjoy it but it's still nice.

Day after Christmas, Tony took down all the holiday stuff.  Then yesterday, he put together the swing and pack n play.  It freaks me out to walk into the living room to a bunch of baby stuff.  This shits getting real, dudes.

  • The thing that sucks is taking down the pretty twinkle lights. I've come to hate most everything else about the holidays, so I'm glad they're over.

  • I'm clinging to my lights for one more week.  I'm not ready for them to come down yet.  I'm debating whether I can hang onto the tree until Sunday or if I should take it down now.  It's doing surprisingly well for being a month old.

  • I'm sad that the lights are down, but I do love getting all of the stuff put away.  It feels like my house is 5 times bigger.

It was fun. I'm a little wined out though. Never thought I would say that.

    I can only imagine.

I hate taking my trees down. The house looks so barren and blah without all my Christmas decor. We are having P's parents up for dinner this month, I'm hoping to have them here while everything still looks awesome. For some reason that feels like a nicer way to tell them I'm knocked up.

  • We're having our hardwoods refinished next week, so our Christmas decorations are already packed away, and we've started clearing out the rest of the rooms we need to empty as well.  Half my house looks barren, and half looks like a bad episode of hoarders. It's sad.
