So what was your favorite part of the holidays?

Was all of your work before worth it?  Or was it a let down?

Re: So what was your favorite part of the holidays?

  • My favorite part was actually spending the time in St. Louis with my in laws.  They came down to spend more time with us instead of making us drive to KC (since we'd already been to Cleveland), and at dinner my MIL actually teared up telling my parents how blessed she felt to have me in her family.  Also, FIL feels relaxed with me and like I've been in the family longer than I have because he mentioned something about me meeting his dad, who died the year before Kirk and I met.  It felt good to feel completely like part of the family- like all of my efforts haven't been wasted.

  • mine were actually better than I expected - My asshat uncle was only there Christmas Even for like a half hour, was gone before we even got there.  Made Christmas Eve way more enjoyable.

The extended IL family managed to actually cook the beef tenderloins properly and I had a nice medium-rare steak, as opposed to the insanely overcooked well-done like usual.

It all still felt very forced and unnecessary to me.  I'm just over the extended family celebrations.  They are rushed because everyone has too many places to go, I only see these people like once a year, etc etc.  I'd rather just celebrate with our immediate families.  Would make things so much easier.

But it was good to see friends, relax over at my parents house a little.  I was ready to come home though.  My favorite part of vacation was the 2 days I got to spend at home relaxing before coming back to work.

  • Meh, they were a little of both good and being a let down.

It just didn't feel like Christmas to me. Plus there's a bunch of family drama going on with my mom's side (Uncle went to prison for tax fraud) and my dad's side (cousin and her husband separated, cousin is 3 months pregnant), so both of those get-togethers were pretty awkward.

Christmas day was actually really nice. Danny & I both got what we wanted. He even got me a new computer when I told him not to spend that kind of money on me (glad he did though!). The day wasn't rushed for once and we got to hang out with our families and actually have a decent time.

New Year's Eve was pretty awesome. We have decided to start a game night with BIL/FI, and SIL/BIL. I'm actually looking forward to that.

Besides the holiday spirit evading me (and my tooth being a bittch) it wasn't that bad of a holiday season.

  • My favorite part of Christmas is always Christmas Eve with my nieces and nephews. Christmas is still so magical and fun for them and it's really fun to be a part of that. Plus, EVERYTHING, my niece got was "exactly what I(she) always wanted!" She's 5, it was adorable.

The rest of the Christmas holiday was wonderful too though; not so busy that we felt rushed but enough things to do that we got to see everyone important to us.

New Year's was good but a little sad. I had a great time celebrating with friends up in WI but Jay couldn't come because of work. I usually do ok without him there, especially when hanging out in big groups, but everyone there was either married and with their spouse or single and flirting it up at the bar on NYE. It sucked to be the only one alone at midnight but then 12:02 hit and it didn't matter anymore and we all just went back to dancing.

I'm glad that Jay's made it one of his goals for the year to find a new job with better pay, hours and days off...he deserves it, we deserve it and I know he'll make it happen Smile

  • Ours was super relaxed and easy. Loved it.

  • It was good..hanging out with my family, watching Jon take charge, get things done and participate so much and help so much with everything was really nice. My mom really appreciated all that we did for her to get the day running smoothly.

Everyone loved their gifts, I feel like this year went pretty well!

  • Despite all the potential drama leading up to the holidays, it was actually a lot of fun with Samma running around this year.  Exhausting... but worth it.

  • Even though we had to drive around (what felt like) the whole country, I loved that Matt's whole family met Jesse, and I loved the time We spent at my brothers. We also had amazing newborn pictures taken and I can't wait to see the rest of them (the teasers are on Facebook). Christmas morning was fun when we all dressed in our Christmas PJs, Jesse's were adorable!
