I was told there'd be no math!

Seriously. I cannot believe that my friend got pregnant from her soon-to-be ex-husband after a drunken fight (he was cheating on her) with her 4th child-- and I am now having to resort to math and homework to get pregnant.

So annoying. I am not a patient person, so this is really starting to get on my nerves. I didn't want to have to chart, to take my temperature, check my body, etc.-- I just wanted to have a good time with MH and then get pregnant. Nice and relaxed. Now I have to do math. I hate math.

When I was younger, I could pregnant standing next to someone who said the word "baby" even if I was on the pill. Getting old sucks. Stupid eggs.

Vent over. Cooking and baking to commence in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...

Re: I was told there'd be no math!

  • Boo!  I'm sorry this is taking longer than you would like and you have to do something you hate.  If I could, I would do your math for you because I like it.  Smile  I totally understand your lack of enthusiasm for being patient.  As soon as Matt accepts a job offer, TTC will begin.  He's been doing recruiting and interviewing for 3 months.  I'm dying for the right job to come along.  At the rate I'm going, I know the waiting part of TTC is going to be a killer!  Stick out tongue

What are you cooking and baking today?

  • I was temping right from the start just to get a hold of what was going on with my body. I used Fertility Friend and used the app on my phone to keep track. It was super simple. And it meant that my doctor could just about pin point when I actually got pregnant.

I never got to the point of checking anything beyond my temperature.

And we still managed to have fun. My DH wound up getting in to my temping and asking me every day how my chart looked. It was cute seeing him so involved and trying to learn more about what was going on.

I definitely understand your frustration though! I have students who get pregnant every day from not using protection "once" and then I have tons of friends who are trying for a long time. Not fair!

  • Temp alone won't be enough for me, I'm learning-- with my schedule changing to nights in 2-4 weeks, I won't be able to chart my BBT accurately because my wake-up times will be random depending on what nights I'm working.

@ Jen, I cannot WAIT for you and Matt to be ready! I will be thinking great job thoughts for Matt. As for my kitchen activities, I'm making homemade meat sauce and then baking a chocolate cake with coconut-egg nog filling. If I can resurrect my cilantro, I will also make some cilantro butter for later use...

It took you guys that long?? I had no idea. That is encouraging! Did you use a particular OPK that you thought was helpful? They're on the more expensive side, so if there are recommendations, I will take 'em to help make a more informed purchase!

  • I could not handle temping and charting. I used the CBEFM for 5 months to get pregnant with Helen. The beauty of the CBEFM is that you can pee on the stick any time within a 6 hour window and it'll still work.

You may or may not want to keep your fertile time to yourself. One time I told DH I had a positive OPK and he said, "So basically I can do anything to piss you off and I'm still going to get laid tonight?"  Confused Darn it if he wasn't right!

  • Sorry it is taking so long and requiring math (hate it!) to get pregnant.

If it helps, took DH and I 13 months to concieve. We finally gave up, started infertility testing, threw away the ovulation predictors., and started planning what we were going to do with all our extra $$ since we couldn't have kids.  28 days later....surprise.

Good luck, and I hope you get a positive result soon.

Opps! Forgot that. I also used OPKs (and my HPTs) from http://www.early-pregnancy-tests.com/ (just the cheapest ones, not their fancier ones). Surprisingly, my cycles were f'ed since I had recently come off my IUD, so I didn't start using my OPKs early enough (how the hell I was to know that I needed to start them basically right after my period is beyond me) to catch a positive OPK. I wound up testing for 24 days with the OPKs to try and nail down my O date. In the end, I had about a week of positive OPKs and then decided to look up if it was possible that I was pregnant. Sure enough, that many positive OPKs can be a sign that your pregnant. So, I took an HPT and got my BFP using the HPTs from http://www.early-pregnancy-tests.com/ as well (the cheapest ones).

  • I used the Internet cheapies at first, then I bought the clear blue easy one- not the one that Kimberly had and that month we were pregnant.

  • Math sucks!!

Or, more accurately, this kind of math has got to be frustrating and I'm sorry you're dealing with it. I hope that it all pays off very quickly!!

  • Sorry things aren't working out as easily as you had hoped. I second Fertility Friend, I believe that they have recommendations for using your BBT even with a changing schedule if you check out the FAQs. You can get cheap OPKs through Amazon. Good luck, I've been keeping my fingers crossed for you!

  • It's so frustrating that things that seem so natural can be more work than you would think (conception/ breastfeeding/ etc). Wishing you good luck!
  • I was horrible at tracking and temping. My cycles are so messed up, I could never figure it out. After 7 months of trying, I got the CBFM and got pregnant that month with Evelyn.?

  • Sorry this is so frustrating...I've been temping/charting to avoid since May, after coming off the pill, and it's been pretty easy just using Fertility Friend.  From what I've heard, you'll probably have better luck and an easier go at just using the OPKs, if you can't temp at the same time (or close to it - on days I "forget" to wake up early, I just use the BBT converter on a cheesy pregnancy site to figure out what my temp would have been if I'd taken it at the right time...which you can probably do, if you have a somewhat consistent schedule.)  We are planning to start TTC soon and I fully expect to be crazy from month one.  I almost wish I hadn't educated myself on charting/temping before we started because now I feel like I know too much, which is ridiculous.  I'm trying not to over-think it and just continue along as usual, but over-thinking is generally my way of life...

Best of luck to you and your DH!

Okay, now I just feel like a twinkie. I've only been trying for about 3 months. Embarrassed

Oh don't! Because I felt the same way as you at 3 months...truly I think if it's more then a month, it's too long! :)

I had seen this quote on one of the TTC boards from Halle Berry that I occasionally think of: ?Nature has got it all wrong: When you are younger, it should be harder to get pregnant, and as you get older it should be easier. When you are so ready, you can?t do it to save your life. And when you are 21, you are so not ready, but you are ripe as could be. The eggs should become more developed the older you get, not die slowly from the day you?re born. That?s one thing God got wrong.?

I don't know if that even helps, but I think it's so true!

  •  Don't feel bad, it is such a frustrating process to go through!  Also, it seemed that everyone I knew managed to get pregnant before me (even friends who were not trying)....I was happy for all of them, but secretly very jealous as well.

  • It sucks and I am sorry you are going through this. After 15 months of charting while TTC #1, I am not doing it this time around. Based on what I learned from talking to my RE and my OB, if you are getting your period regularly, chances are, you are ovulating. So I would say try to have sex every few days (sperm can live inside you up to 5 days), check your cervical mucus, and use OPKs or the CBEFM that Kimberly was talking about. I hope it happens for you soon.

  • I know it's frustrating.  I am sorry you are feeling like you are, however most of us have been there.  It always seems like the ones with the "oops I'm pregnant" or "It only took me one month" pop up when starting the TTC journey. I remember being so frustrated, and actually crying over it a few times.  I did use Fertility Friend, OPK's, and the month I did get pregnant, I didn't think there was any way we would be pregnant. (timing was way off).  I pray and hope it happens for you soon.  Continued vibes that your TTC journey isn't a long one.

  • Temping is annoying, but I kind of like looking at my chart month to month :) I started temping months before we even tried with Riley to be prepared. The 2nd time I decided I didn't want to and that lasted all of one cycle. I ovulate on the late side, so without it I don't think we would hit the window. Getting up at night here and there with Riley made for an ugly chart, but it was still enough to see a temp spike even if not all points were accurate!
