new year/back to reality!

Good morning and happy new year everyone! My last long weekend for the foreseeable future is over (sigh).

How was everyone's holiday weekend? We almost got hit head on by a drunk driver trying to enter the off-ramp around 8:00 pm on Saturday after running a couple errands (who is THAT drunk by 8pm??) ... and that solidified our decision to go home and stay there. Other than that though it was a good weekend and the little dude's birthday party was a lot of fun! His mom and I interacted quite a bit and were both very pleasant. I think it was good for us to see each other interacting with the family and the kids.

My adorable parents had a new year's party and were still partying (and texting me pictures of themselves) at 2am. (They don't even drink, I think they had a sugar high from all the Martinelli's they drank) Meanwhile I was dead asleep by 12:30, lol.

Re: new year/back to reality!

  • Wow, I'm so glad you didn't get hit! Scary!!

We had a relatively lowkey weekend as well. Saturday, we exchanged the jewelry DH got me for the holidays and then I prepped for NYE. We had another couple come over and join us and they left to go home around 1030... we barely stayed up for midnight. We had a lazy day on Sunday and didn't do anything big. Monday, DH flew out early so I took DD and headed to my parents for the day.

  • That is really scary.  How irresponsible of the other driver. I have such a hard time with DD's.  There are way to many options for them, and to me no excuse is ever good enough for driving in that condition.

We were home sick, and the boys went to my MIL's.  Once we were better on Sunday it was filled with cleaning and spending time with the boys.

Totally agreed. We are thinking of doing a party at my house next new year's eve and I am already planning to have the guest room and living room ready for company if people can't drive. It's just not worthwhile to risk driving drunk. Absolutely no benefit comes from it and you just don't know what will happen!!

We also had a low-key weekend.  On NYE, we didn't make it until midnight.  New Year's day, we hung out with my cousin before she headed back to college and I roasted a duck.  Yesterday, we ordered new tiles for our kitchen.  They are rubber and should be much better for standing on for long periods of time.  Plus they are a green material so I'm excited about them!  We also visited with a friend who was in town for the holidays.

  • Very low key weekend here.  We spent Saturday in Bangor.  We were able to leave DD at my mom's house for a few hours while we went to a couple stores and then met some people at Geaghan's for dinner.  It was really nice actually.  I had 2 margarita's and I was feeling pretty toasty :)  DH drove home and I tried to nap but couldn't.  DD didn't sleep on the ride home either.

Sunday was groceries and then yesterday I ended up in Bangor again.  I didn't realize my uncles were in town and I wanted to get a visit in with them, without having a million different people around (at the funeral tomorrow).

Today I'm trying to get my house clean but I'm just not motivated.

  • We landed at PWM at 10:30PM on NYE, left the airport at 11:00PM, and got home 40ish minutes later. We were still barely conscious at midnight, but awake enough to wish each other a happy new year and sleepily remark that we are becoming parents this year (YIKES!).

Sunday we spent a large portion of the day being lazy at my ILs house when we went to pick up Digby. Monday we cleaned the house a ton and then had my parents (and family friends) over for my dad's birthday cheesecake, seeing the photos from our trip, and seeing how Digby would like hanging out with a 10 month old.

I need a week to just be lazy and recover. I felt crappy for most of the weekend and am only just starting to feel better today.

  • That is so scary, glad that you were ok! The highlight of our weekend was picking out a name for LO. We thought we had one before and then after finding out the gender we decided to go back to the drawing board. We haven't really started using it in context yet, I hope that it sticks this time! We were asleep shortly after 9 on NYE and I just threw something together for dinner that night because the roads were too icky to go to the grocery store. Yesterday I went up to Bangor and visited my friend who just had her baby. I love snuggling newborns!
