I know some of you went through moves during your divorce. I stayed in our "family home." Now ds and I are in the process of moving, and I feel like I need to make a check list so I don't forget things. Can you ladies think of anything I forgot?
1. Schedule utilities to be turned off at my current address.
2. Add my name to utilities at bf's house (so that I can handle things when he is on travel for work which is often and because I need proof of address for ds' school and a utility bill counts.
3. Change address on subscriptions.
4. Change address with insurance and financial institutions/banks I use.
5. I just started a new job, so all my HR paperwork was filled out with new address already.
6. Hired moving truck and movers to help with furniture.
7. Notified ds' school of new address and filled out intradistrict transfer form. We will be in the same district, but in a different school neighborhood. DS wants to stay at his current school so I need to fill out a form to make that official.
8. Change address with DMV on license and on car registration.
9. Change address with my MBA program.
What else??
Re: Moving check list help!!
If you have any retirement programs or stocks, change name/address. Also, make sure you've updated any beneficiary information. When I got married, I made DH my beneficiary on my retirement, insurance, etc. What a pain to change, but worth it!
Good thought, but no. I refused to let ex add his girlfriend and said as a one time thing, we'd call if she was picking him up, but not as a general thing. So I can't very well add bf. My parents are retired and live 10 minutes away. I work 15 minutes from school. My brother's office is walking distance from school. So there are plenty of us who can get to ds quickly in an emergency
Change your address with the postal service, so if you accidently forget to notify someone, the mail will get forwarded to you.
This. You can do it online and your mail will get forwarded for 6 months.
