OTC hyperpigmentation products

I have red spots that linger for months after I have a break out. I'm on Minocycline, Finacea, and Epiduo, which is working pretty well at keeping the acne at bay for the moment, but not doing much to fade the hyperpigmentation. I've been eyeing Clinique's new dark spot corrector, but it's $$ and has mixed reviews. I had gift cards to Macy's so I ended up w/ Origins products. I got more product for less money so we'll see how that goes. I should have asked before I spent the money, but has anyone found anything that actually works for post inflammatory hyperpigmentation so I can be on the look out?

Re: OTC hyperpigmentation products

  • I think my Clarisonic (Mia) has helped.  They are pricey but I have been really happy with it.
  • I was going to suggest the Clinique Even Better
  • I would highly recommend going in for a skin consultation with a licensed Esthetician, or a facial if your budget allows. Estheticians are supposed to make recommendations to help make your skin better regardless of what product line or budget you have. People at cosmetics counters are there to sell THEIR product period.

You should be able to get on a skin care regime that will help balance your skin out to keep breakouts from happening while healing the dark spots from past breakouts. It takes at least 4-6 weeks before you can see truly solid results from any product.

If you are seeking something more organic or herbal, check out eminence products or aveda's enbrightenment line. There are also essential oils that can help, but my mind is blank right this moment about which of those to rec.

If you want something more clinical/medicinal check out sanitas or dermalogica products.

In almost every line out there a serum is going to be the most potent part of a system. It's going to have the smallest molecules and the highest concentration of the active ingredients. Because of the small molecules, its going to penetrate the deepest. Unfortunately, they are usually the most expensive part of the system.
