I need some sick kiddo advice

G's had a dry cough for a few weeks and yesterday turned into a lose, mucousy sounding cough. She also has a fever of around 102 (up to 103 last night) for the past 24hrs or so.

I took her into the pedi today and pedi said it was probably an upper respitory virus. Possibly croup, we needed to watch her for the barky cough. But that was it. They peaked at her ears and throat, etc.

She's obviously sick. Not sleeping well at.all. Very cranky, coughing, constant runny nose. Motrin helps her fever a tiny bit, but not much. She goes from playing fine one minute, to uncontrollable crying the next.

We are leaving for a family Christmas on Thursday. I'm thinking about taking her back in tomorrow, possibly to our family dr. I guess I'm just second guessing the pedi and feel like they are wrong. I never  second guess them, but she's getting a bit worse, definitely no better.

Would you take her back to the pedi or our family dr? Any guesses on what it could be or what to watch for?

Re: I need some sick kiddo advice

  • The dry cough for an extended amount of time would have me concerned - I would be thinking Croup. I'd be taking her back in :)  But I lie on the side of caution - so factor that in.  Good Luck!

  • Last night her fever broke, got up to 104.5.

Now she just is sounding better...hopefully we are on the med!

  • If he told you it was a virus, there isn't anything they can do for that :( stupid virus'.

I'd stick to the natural approch. See if she'll let you do a steam shower with her. And check her teeth. Does she have her eye teeth yet? Those were the worst with Ella, and she had a lot of what you're discribing before they poped through.

And sometimes it is worse before it gets better. I hope she feels better soon!
