I found this sweet girl today roaming our neighborhood in south Minneapolis. We're in Windom...right on the edge of Kenny. She is a mix, seems pretty young, about 40 lbs, mostly white with some reddish brown markings on her face, ears, and hind quarters. She was with a German Shepard (possible mix??) too but I wasn't able to lure him in. She came running though and couldn't stop giving me kisses! She wasn't wearing a collar and she's not microchipped. (My vet was awesome...he sent out his vet tech to come and see if she was chipped instead of having me bring her in!)
Here's what I've done so far: called the closest 5 vets, called the humane society and posted on their found board online, asked around the neighborhood if anyone else recognizes them, posted on craigslist, posted on Facebook, and called animal control. Get this...animal control told me that since I had her in my fenced in yard and she wasn't mean, it would be 3-4 days before they would come and pick her up. My neighbor decided to house her at her house instead of bringing her in because we couldn't bear the thought of what would happen if no one claims her. Any other ideas for us on finding this sweet girls family???
Re: Do you know of anyone who is missing their dog??
Very cute! Did you walk around the neighborhood looking for signs? What about putting up signs yourself?
I think you are doing a lot. I hope she finds her way back home.
I will keep my eyes open too- I am in Longfellow, never know how far she wandered
Thanks for helping the lost girl, good to hear she's found her family.
A great case for microchipping ... it's not that expensive, and would have helped you find her family right away. Such a small investment for peace of mind. Hopefully they'll get her chipped now.
Mr. Sammy Dog
Yes, the other dog was his too. When he picked her up on Friday, the German Shepard was still missing. The dog that is still missing is named Savannah and is really shy from people she doesn't know. Which makes sense since she wouldn't get within 20 feet of me. He said this is the second time since this summer that this has happened. Last time it was two weeks till Savannah found her own way home. He said Savannah is really tall and knows how to open doors. He didn't get an outside gate closed all the way and the two of them took off on an excursion! So if you see a german shepard running around south minneapolis...it could be Savannah!
I hope so too! Especially if these two have a tendency to go exploring while their owner is at work! I think people think that it won't happen to their dog....but you never know!
