Dr RE - A question about sedation
Tomorrow is the day that Jorge the fibroid is being evicted. They tell me they will be using conscious sedation for this procedure and the nurse just said "Oh, you'll probably just fall asleep." Is this true? Will I take a peaceful nap and not remember or feel any of it? Or, will my worst fears come true and I'll be awake but in some sort of weird state where I can actually feel everything but can't do a darn thing about it?
Please help calm my anxiety. I already have my painkillers for afterwards and I'm sort of looking forward to a weekend on the couch with some good drugs.

Dude, sedation is AWESOME. Don't worry, just enjoy it.
What procedure are you having to remove it? Lap? Is Jorge inside or outside your ute?
These are exactly the type of answers I was hoping to get.
Jorge is inside the ute, so they are doing a hysteroscopy to yank him out. I had another removed 3 years ago, but he was on the outside and they had to do lap. I'm told this one should be a much easier recovery.
I had a lap to remove a (very large) fibroid with a significant amount of surface attachment (so it wasn't one of those stalk type of deals). My recovery was pretty easy - I was up and about within 2-3 days. Was yours more difficult?
I believe I was full on knocked out for that one, and I've had twilight sedation as well. The only real difference between the two was that the guy who sedated me for my a-hole tear was hot enough to be on the cover of a magazine. Ugh. "Sooo what are we doing today?" "Oh I just have an anal fissure MY HUSBAND IS HOT TOO OK IT DOESN'T BOTHER ME THAT YOU'RE SO GOOD LOOKING."
I was full on knocked out for the first one and also had an incision that was about 3 inches long on the bikini line. The worst part was the gas they used to pump up the abdomen sat in my shoulders for about 3 days and was more painful than the actual incision.
If the guy doing the sedation this time is the same from the last, I won't have to worry about the hot factor. It does make me feel awky that my hoo hoo will be on display for the world to see while I'm taking a little nap, though.
They call it "conscious" sedation because you will be able to respond if they ask you a question, but you won't remember anything. I've never had it, but it seems to be great.
Just keep telling yourself not to talk. I've heard some weird stuff after giving sedations meds.
Dammit...see I was worried about this too. I'm probably going to end up on YouTube.
