? for those expecting or have had a baby/babies....

What can I expect at my gender scan?

My appointment is Friday at 8am and I am so excited to find out if it is a boy or girl.  Is there anything I should expect other than the tech just doing an ultra sound?  I know my doctor said they would review it with me as well at my next appointment with her on the 10th.

This is all so new to me again.  My son will be 14 on the 10th!

  • If I remember correctly, my scan was just a routine ultrasound. They did the usual blood pressure, weight, urine test every visit, so I'm sure I had that done too. Other than that, just the usual ultra sound.
I hope your LO cooperates and isn't too shy on Friday!   Do you have a 'feeling' of either one?  Desire?
With our first I was convinced it was a boy, dh thought girl. When the tech told us it was a boy I actually fist pumped and said "YES, I was right and you were wrong".  She got a good laugh at me, but I didn't care.  The second one, I had no feeling either way, but was told it must be a girl since I was carrying so differently from my first (didn't show until much after 20 weeks).  Everyone was wrong obviously.

    Good luck!

  • I just had my anatomy scan last week.  I had to go to a seperate building for it so it was just the ultrasound.  No BP or anything like that.  They measure EVERYTHING possible on the baby.  Leg/arm bones, spine, brain, heart, bowels, kidneys, everything.  It took about 30 minutes total.

  • It's just an ultrasound, it takes awhile because they have to measure everything and make sure everything looks good, but there's not really anything you have to know to prepare or anything. For ours she couldn't tell the whole time and then once she was done doing all the measurements she got her to move so we could get the money shot!

  • Same w/everyone else, just an ultrasound.  Just ask the baby to nicely cooperate with you.

DD was fine, but we had to go twice for DS, he just didn't want to show the parts the 1st time!

I have a feeling it's a girl, but I honestly do not care if its one or the other.  Naturally DH wants a boy.  The main reason I think it's a girl is because we've already chosen the name for a boy and I have already picked out the nursery decor for a boy.  As of now, I am not drawn to any girl names or decor.
