Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. Re: Knitters
You could seriously use anything.
The pattern as-is is written for a worsted weight, which is pretty much the most basic weight of yarn. Sizing down to a DK (double knitting) or baby yarn would help to size the pattern down. For needle size go with whatever is recommended on the ball band (depends on the yarn).
My suggestion would be to just head to your LYS (local yarn store) and find something you like! Knit up a test swatch to figure out gauge and scale the pattern if you need to. That's one of the joys of a simple rib, you can do nearly anything.
We'll just not tell H about this little fact, m'kay?
I love that there's an acronym for that.
