What is your favorite DC attraction (a museum, theater, building, park etc)? What attraction haven't you seen yet but want to?
Re: QOTD: Wednesday
Pretty much any of the monuments. I really like the Vietnam Wall, the Korean War memorial and the WWII memorial. I cry everytime I'm at one of them. One time I was down at the WWII memorial and a bus full of Honor Flight recipients were there, it was just all too much for me, I had to walk away because I was a blubbering mess.
I haven't been down to see the MLK memorial yet - but I want to see it.
We make the rockin' world go 'round.
That's really hard.
But I think the National Gallery of Art is amazing. I love the art there and it is awesome that it is all free!
I haven't been to the Martin Luther King Memorial yet.

I love the WWII Memorial and The Kennedy Center.
I haven't seen the MLK Memorial yet except for driving by.
Stand up for something you believe in.
my favorite is the national gallery of art. i remember having a day to myself in DC after visiting colleges and i basically spent the entire day in the national gallery. robert frank's the americans was in the east wing and i think spent like an hour in that exhibit alone. the museum of american history is a close second.
i want to go to the newseum (which we will do soon as we have a groupon for it)
My favorite is the Iwo Jima/Netherlands Carrillon park. It's got a great view of DC, and is a great place to hang out on a nice afternoon or watch the fireworks. (Plus it's where DH proposed, so I have a soft spot for it.)
I've never been to the US Botanical Garden or the Hillwood estate, but would love to see both.
Another vote for the National Gallery of Art. I also love the monuments, although I haven't seen the MLK monument yet. The one museum I desperately need to go to is American History. We really just need to get into DC more in general. I've also never seen the Reflecting Pool open--it's been closed since we moved here.
I love the National Portrait Gallery, Mount Vernon, and the Kennedy Center (was there for the first time on Saturday).
I have a lot of things I want to see: National Archives, Museum of Natural History, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, National Geographic Museum, MLK Memorial... one of my goals this year is to see more in DC. I was all about seeing the sights at first, but then got lazy and figured we'll be here a while, we'll have time.

i love FDR memorial. also just walking by the White House. the Capitol Building is my favorite though hands down...so much we had wedding photos taken there.
i haven't been to the National Archives since they re-did it so i want to check that out!
PS a girlfriend and i just did the Hillwood Estate in December. Really interesting. Lots of jewlery and a cool look into the recent past of a very wealthy woman. could be a fun nestie afternoon.
I love the memorials - FDR, VietNam, Lincoln - the outdoors. I haven't been to MLK yet, either, and need to do that (when it gets warmer - brrrrr!). Museums-wise, I love American History and Natural History. John loves Air and Space (esp the Udvar-Hazy, but I think that's bc he likes to mispronounce Udvar-Hazy.) I liked the Newseum, too, but yeah, wait for the Groupon (spoiled as we are to be in a city where most of the attractions are free....).
I have a chance to take the Capitol Dome tour this year, and am excited about that!
I love walking by the White House as often as I can (my office is a block away). I can't walk by like it doesn't matter, like it's just part of the scenery. I always stop to look up at the house.
"What is a week-end?"
I can't really narrow it down to 1 favorite. I like the reflecting pond, and the Lincoln memorial... I actually just enjoy sitting on the steps looking over the reflecting pond and just getting lost in thoughts. I know that's the point of it!!
Something I haven't done yet that I want too: The Nathional Cathederal. I've never been but really want to do a tour of it.
NGA and Udvar Hazy top my list.
I've been in (and sung in!) National Cathedral but would like to take an official tour one of these days. Amd I should get to the Botanical Gardens at some point.
I love the National Botanic Gardens, the National Arboretum, the FDR memorial (It's really a beautiful journey) and the Phillips Collection.
As to where I would like to visit, there are a lot of small museums I think would be fun to go. Hillwood tops the list, but the Frederick Douglas House, the Woodrow Wilson House, and the Pope-Leighey (Frank Lloyd Wright designed) in VA are up there.
I really enjoy the American History Museum. We've also been taking guests to the Crime and Punishment Museum lately for something different.
On my list to see is the Hirshorn or Corcoran Galleries.
National art gallery or Portrait gallery.
I havent done the Crime and Punishment museum
Favorite - Natural History Museum and the Kennedy Center
Want to see - Holocaust Museum and Arlington National Cemetery (my grandfather is buried there and I have always wanted to see the site)
Wow, if I had to pick one favorite, it would probably be the National Museum of American Art, because I interned there in college. NGA is a very close second and my favorite museum that people hardly ever go to is the Freer, for Whistler's Peacock Room.
One place I've never been and was really sad not to get to while we were living there is Hillwood. I worked on a Faberge project during another of my college internships and have been obsessed ever since, so I very much wanted to go!
