visiting NY - any ideas??
DH and I are planning a NY trip sans DS! going for 5 nights.......yikes~ we're really looking forward to it and looking for any off the beaten path tips on what to do? we'll be staying in Manhatten...but willing to really explore!TIA! what we'd like to do already is a show, one fancy dinner...
Re: visiting NY - any ideas??
Some of this is repeated from another thread on this board, so sorry if you read it twice.
Cafeteria - This is a restaurant that's open 24 hours (which is awesome if you want to eat out really late) and I often go there after clubbing, but the food is amazing and I'd go for a normal dinner there any time.Spring Street Natural - My favorite restaurant of all time (so I'm a little biased), but the food is great continental meets Asian themed stuff. Made from local products and very reasonably priced. Also a couple of blocks from Soho shopping. Love their mangoritas!
Max Brenner - A chocolate restaurant in Union Square. There are locations all over the country, but if you've never been it'll be a fun trip. Killer chocolate martinis!
Besides 5th/Madison Avenue, Soho (Broadway below Houston) is a great area to shop with not only the designer and botique shops but more affordable things as well. Bleeker street also has some great shops around 11th St. plus Magnolia Baker is very close to there.
Then for sightseeing I'd definitely go to Central Park, The Metropolitain Museum of Art, and the Natural History Museum. There's also the Guggenheim, Whitney, and Moma art museums. Also a relatively new museum for design at Columbus Circle. You can catch a concert, the opera, or ballet at Lincoln Center.Tea Time for Lulu
Try posting this on the NYC local board. Since those women live there, they will best be able to give you advice about "off the beaten path"
My suggestion is always the same: make a list of everything you have ever wanted to do / heard of in NYC then whittle it down.
Some touristy stuff is fun if you have never done it: Top of the Rock or Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, South Street Seaport, Staten Island Ferry, central park zoo etc.
