Where do you buy your meat?

Well I will be trying to make "freezer meals" for the next month. I was just wondering where the best place to buy bulk meats is. Best quality and price. Thanks! And any tips if anyone makes freezer meals would be loved!!

Re: Where do you buy your meat?

  • Bare Chicken from HyVee

Steaks, hamburger, roast from the cow my parents have processed.  If that runs out or we need something special I go to Just Good Meat on 84th between F and L.  It's crazy cheap, IMO.

    We don't buy pork.

  • Costco and Hyvee for Chicken..we also share a cow with family for our red meat needs.

I'll have to check out Just Good Meat though, I would have thought the opposite about the prices..thanks for the info!

  • We get our cow and pig from DH's uncle on a farm. But chicken I like buying from Super Target. I get the bags of boneless skinless breasts and they always seem to be cheap and are good.
  • Fresh chicken - I get the bare chicken from Hyvee. Frozen, I get the bags from Sam's. Ground Turkey -- Jennie O from Target is our fav, but we will get frozen tubes from Super Saver also. We don't get much red meat or pork - if we do, it's Hyvee or super saver.

  • I actually really enjoy the boneless skinless chicken breast from Bag N Save meat counter (so you have to go to specific ones 108th Q, 156th and Q, and I go to the somewhat "ghetto" one at 18th and Vinton).  Every other week it seems they are on sale for 1.99 a pound, and they are very fresh!! We stock up at that price as my husband goes through a ton of meat every week. Also, if their petite sirloin steak are on sale its a good cut of meat to quickly grill.

Ground turkey-Costco has the best price unless you catch it on sale somewhere rarely.

Ground Hamburger (90% lean or higher) depends but usually No Frills has it on sale (i.e. this week its 93% at 2.99/lb)

We also buy meat at Just Good Meats, it is better to buy in bulk, as in half a cow, etc. there.
