I have been tasked with creating stepson's "Senior Scrapbook" for graduation. Apparently, this is a big deal in small towns? I had never heard of it, but was enlightened this weekend..anyway, I have SOME scrapbooking supplies, but haven't done it in years.
I have heard that there are nights where you can go to scrapbooking stores and use their materials. Can anyone tell me where, and what all it entails? I think this might be a good option so I don't have to invest a TON in new supplies.
Also, any suggestions on basics I'll need to get?
Also, DH's ex may or may not be creating her own book..no one knows, and so worst case scenario, he'll have two..which I would think would be great. In light of this, do you think I should include pictures of her in the book I create? I'm sure my in-laws could dig some up if necessary..I don't really want to, but I also want to do "the right thing".
Re: Scrapbooking AND a WWAND
Is it pictures of just High School? or like his whole life? LOL! I guess to me it seems weird to have two of them...can't you just see if she's doing it and ask her if you can put pics into it? I would assume she's going to be the one that has all the stuff you would want in there like news paper clippings of him for sports, or old programs from school functions, report cards, etc. Things like that as I'm assuming that's what would go into it?
And regardless if you do it or not, I prefer to pay people to do these types of things for me. LOL!
If I were in your shoes, I would rather do a slideshow on the computer that could be put on a dvd and played somewhere in the reception hall. That way, the pictures could be scanned fairly easily, and I am sure some of his more recent ones are already digital and put to music. Probably meaning places that do this if you look for a small cost.
I teach in a small town and this is almost exclusively how all graduation parties are anymore, the dvd always playing in the background of the party. There wouldn't be double scrapbooks that way!
Wait a minute- you can pay someone to scrapbook for you? I didn't know this.
From what I understand, it's pretty much his whole life. I have about 10 years worth of pictures...as far as clippings etc. there isn't much, as he isn't really very involved in school. As far as programs etc., sadly I have more of that stuff then she does.
I wish I could just work with her on it, that's not an option....to sum it up. You know how people say things get better with time as far as a divorce situation, kids, custody etc? This one just keeps getting worse....
I like the slide show idea, we may do that too..but my MIL is adament that there be a physical book....and no one seems to think his Mom will end up making one.
Archiver's at VP has scrap nights every Friday and Saturday night from 5-11. It's $10 to go, you get to use all their stuff (die cuts, etc...) and it's 20% off anything you buy in the store that night. When I used to go, lots of people shared their things - different scissors, etc... and even traded paper with me!
As far as including mom... My thought is: if she is making one, will she include you and DH? Or can someone just ask her if she's making one? (If I remember from past posts, though, isn't she kind of flaky?) Also, if it's just high school, I would be more inclined to do JUST stuff that you guys have done with him and leave her stuff up to her... if it's from the day he was born, well, you can't exactly leave her out of his entire life.

Flaky is an understatement..that's the problem. It doesn't really matter if she SAYS she's making a book, we would never be able to count on it.
That's cool about Archivers..and close to my house! I'll have to give it a try:)
I think I could scrape up a few pics of her with him...I guess I just cringe at the thought of old family pictures of DH and his ex, but I realize this isn't about me.
Oh, and they used to have snacks and stuff, too. (Granted, it's been probably 4 years since I went. I really need to go back.) Oh, and you do have to call ahead with a reservation- they only have so many seats a night. (I want to say 24? And it was usually pretty full, but there was always plenty of room to work)
As far as basics - if you are scrapping at Archivers, they will have everything you need. I don't remember how much their paper was, but you could go to Hobby Lobby and get paper and stickers and stuff - it might be cheaper than Archivers, even with the 20% off.

Be prepared to still buy the paper, etc at Archivers (or bring in your own from sales at Michaels, etc) so it will still get fairly pricey. Scrapbooking is not a cheap task!! My friend has made scrapbooks of her 4 nieces and nephews and has invested probably thousands in those things!!
Sorry about flaky ex! How did senior pictures go? I know a lot of students who struggle with that with families that are split.
LOL! Well, I don't know who, but I'm sure I could pay someone...ha!
Did anyone here see the awesome quilt Tiff made with the baby clothes? That is what I"m planning on doing for the boys when they graduate from HS, but with tshirts/sweatshirt/uniforms from the sports/activities they played in school plus pics of them printed onto fabric. My sisters ex "MIL" made one for her sons when they graduated HS and it was the neatest thing!! That might be a good idea/alternative if your MIL agrees.
She told us that she wanted to set them up with a family friend, then it didn't happen for about 6 months. He finally got a few poses, and we just saw the proofs this last weekend. Thankfully the photographer is letting us all put in our own orders...
