Re: Survey: Grocery Budget

  • How much is your monthly grocery budget? $300

How many people do you feed on a regular basis? 2

Do you use coupons? Sometimes if I cut them from the Sunday paper. But I usually only save a few bucks

    Do you price match? No

Where do you shop for the best deals? I usually go to Super Target. I love their market pantry brand and always have good luck buying fresh fruit and veggies from them.  If I want to buy cheap I go to Baker's. Hyvee is the most expensive for me.

How often do you eat out with your grocery budget? I don't include eating out in my grocery budget. I have a budget but it's more of an estimate to make sure I get all my bills paid. We don't eat out regularly, maybe once a week on average but sometimes it's something fast to go.

How much is your monthly grocery budget? Around $200

How many people do you feed on a regular basis? 3, well technically 2 since my kid refuses to eat. :)

Do you use coupons? No. I find I buy unnecessary things when I try to coupon and end up spending extra money that I wouldn't normally spend.

    Do you price match? Sometimes.

Where do you shop for the best deals? Walmart. We buy a lot of generic Walmart stuff, which is another reason why we don't use coupons. I've found that sometimes the Walmart brand stuff is even cheaper than the name brand is with a coupon. I've been buying more and more at Costco now that we are living in town. Like the frozen Chicken breasts...they aren't cheaper than other places, but they are all the same size and thickness and to me that's worth it. We also buy our milk at Costco all the time, which is cheaper than anywhere else. And I've started buying some produce there too, bananas ($.48/lb),etc.

How often do you eat out with your grocery budget? We eat out maybe 3x a week, and that's mainly some kind of fast food for whatever meal and usually only on the weekends. We very rarely spend more than $20 on a meal when we eat out. I don't really budget for that though.

  • How much is your monthly grocery budget?  I don't have a budget that I stick to but I'm guessing we spend about $300-400 a month.

How many people do you feed on a regular basis?  3 and the boy eats a LOT.  so does DH actually.

Do you use coupons?  yes, but more for household items.  We buy a lot of store brands and the coupons available are usually for products we don't use (frozen dinners, pizzas, boxed meals, canned stuff)

Do you price match?  Yes, I just started about a month ago and it saves me at least $10-15 per week

Where do you shop for the best deals?  I only shop HyVee and Super Target.  HyVee is where I PM and buy all meat and produce.  There are certain things that are cheaper at HV and certain things cheaper at Target.  This is also where PM comes in.  I refuse to hit up 4 different stores every week.

How often do you eat out with your grocery budget?  We don't budget that in but we eat out 1-2 times a week.  Usually it's something quick (JJ's, Noodles, pizza) but once a month we'll go somewhere for a sit down meal (usually someplace we know we can eat cheaply or we have a coupon/Groupon).  I know DH goes out to eat a few times a week for work and I average 2-3 times a month.

  • How much is your monthly grocery budget? We dont really have a set budget, but we probably spend about $350/month

How many people do you feed on a regular basis? 2 adults, one toddler

    Do you use coupons? nope

    Do you price match? nope

Where do you shop for the best deals? Bag & Save usually has good sales

How often do you eat out with your grocery budget?  We eat out about 6-7x/month, but I dont include that in my grocery budget.

  • How much is your monthly grocery budget?  Don't have a firm budget, but probably spend $300 on groceries in a month including toiletries and Sam's Club visits.

How many people do you feed on a regular basis? 2 adults, 2 children

    Do you use coupons? Yes.

    Do you price match? Sometimes.

Where do you shop for the best deals? Bag N Save mostly lately, but I like HyVee's 1 or 2 day sales.

How often do you eat out with your grocery budget? I don't figure that into my grocery budget, but I usually eat out 1-2 times a week for lunch and usually 1 time on weekends with DH.

  • How much is your monthly grocery budget? $300-350 (we do a lot of fresh fruit, veggies, and meat - stuff we can't get coupons for!). We used to spend at least $400 a month before we started couponing, price matching, and switched from Hyvee to Super Saver

How many people do you feed on a regular basis? 2, plus I make all B's food

Do you use coupons? For our big trips every other week - yes; for our "oh crap I forgot to get something out of the freezer" - no. If we see coupons for something we won't use, we don't cut it out. If it's a new product that looks good, we will try it - if we don't like it, we throw the rest away.

Do you price match? Same ^ -- Between the two, we save about 30% of our bill so it's worth the time we put into it!

Where do you shop for the best deals? Super Saver for big trips; Hyvee for the quick trips

How often do you eat out with your grocery budget? Different part of budget, but once a week or less

  • How much is your monthly grocery budget?  I don't stick to a strict budget but $350-$400 max, that includes toiletries and household items and feeding two Celiacs and my restricted diet.

How many people do you feed on a regular basis? Two adults, three kids

Do you use coupons? on toiletries and household items like toilet paper, etc...we buy Hyvee and Market Pantry brand more than anything so we don't find use for much food coupons--that and we don't eat ready made and box meals.

Do you price match? Yes.  Especially at Hyvee---hello $2.99/lb Smart Chicken on a regular basis :)

Where do you shop for the best deals? Hyvee and Target

How often do you eat out with your grocery budget? I eat out maybe twice a month and it's a $5- $10 deal so I don't figure it into the grocery budget.

  • How much is your monthly grocery budget?

    don't have a budget, but I spend $425-500/month

How many people do you feed on a regular basis?

    Two adults and two toddlers

    Do you use coupons?

    no

    Do you price match?

    no

Where do you shop for the best deals?

I shop at Hy-Vee for everything regardless of price. I enjoy grocery shopping and enjoy everything about Hy-Vee.

How often do you eat out with your grocery budget?

I eat three meals a day, seven days a week at home. DH probably averages three meals, six days a week. We both enjoy cooking, so it works out well. Now, if I could just get my children to stop throwing all our hard work on the floor...

  • Thanks everyone.

We are around $250-$300 for 2 adults and S then a few days a week with 2 additional kids.  I try to coupon and price match as much as possible and right now, we do not go out to eat except this month we did since we needed a date.

How much is your monthly grocery budget? $500, usually go over a bit but we also buy local grass fed poultry, pork, and beef, local milk, and a lot of organic/specialty foods

How many people do you feed on a regular basis? 2

    Do you use coupons? rarely

Do you price match? never, too lazy

Where do you shop for the best deals? health foods/organic produce: whole foods, some HyVee; bread products: Wohlner's; everything else HyVee

How often do you eat out with your grocery budget? depends, sometimes a couple days a week sometimes a couple times a month

Food/cooking is pretty much my hobby so I am okay with spending a lot.  We don't go out much or spend a lot on other forms of entertainment. Probably not a very helpful response:)

ETA: This includes toiletries/cleaning products and we both take our lunch 90% of the time.

  • How much is your monthly grocery budget? We don't really have a budget, but we spend about $200-$250 on groceries monthly(exclusive of alcohol)

How many people do you feed on a regular basis? 2 adults and a toddler

    Do you use coupons? Constantly

    Do you price match? No

Where do you shop for the best deals? I buy 75% of our food at whole foods and I just buy what's in season. We eat mostly organic produce and naturally raised meat, but we don't tend to buy processed food, which cuts back a lot on our budget.

How often do you eat out with your grocery budget? We don't include dining out on our grocery budget. We don't do dinner out regularly since lo goes to bed at 5, but we do lunches once or twice a month.

How much is your monthly grocery budget? GAHHH We avg 125 a week so around 500 dollars a month--very strict diet for DH

How many people do you feed on a regular basis? 2

Do you use coupons? yes for some household items

Do you price match? I shop the different stores if possible

Where do you shop for the best deals? Baker's and Bag N Save tend to be the best for us. But I do buy a lot of meat (as in my DH on his diet eats 7 to 9 meals a day almost strictly lean protein) so I would say due to his diet constrictions 90 dollars is his each week and the other 40 or so is stuff that I want/share with him.

How often do you eat out with your grocery budget? Less than once a week together, I might grab Subway or something else another time each week.

  • imageAudreyHpbrn:

How much is your monthly grocery budget? I spend about $5-600 per month. I buy most/all of our "toiletries" (TP, body soap, deodorant, hand soap, razors, contact solution, etc) at the grocery store as well.

How many people do you feed on a regular basis? 2 adults, 2 kids - though my older son eats more than I do. No exaggeration, he eats like a moose. The 2 yr old eats about as much as I do. So more or less, 4 adults. I send lunch for my younger son every day & my older son about 1x/week. We get free lunch at work so I'm not about to pack a lunch, too lazy.

    Do you use coupons? No.

    Do you price match? No.

Where do you shop for the best deals? I shop at Whole Foods & HyVee right now. During the spring/summer I try to get as much as I can at the farmers markets.

How often do you eat out with your grocery budget? We try to eat out 1x/week or less, I would guess we wind up eating out 1 meal 3x/month.

We have friends/family over for dinner at least a few times a month & tend to throw a lot of parties, which does plump up my food budget a lot. We also are beer/wine snobs & so even a couple 6 packs of beer once or twice a month is not inexpensive.

I cannot fathom how people spend so little?! I am turning into a food nutcase, all organic, local, not processed, etc. That fresh produce isn't cheap, but I love it. :)
