Fun Caribbean Destination with a toddler?

We are planning our family spring break somewhere in the Caribbean this year.  We have a three year old, so any suggestions for kids friendly resorts or locations would be much appreciated!  We want to stay away from the DR and Jamaica - but anywhere else would be absolutely fine.  Please let me know if you have a good family friendly recommendation!  Thank you.

  • We just got back from a trip to Puerto Rico, where we stayed at the Caribe Hilton. We didn't have DD with us, but it seemed to be a very family-friendly hotel. I'm not sure if they have some of the kid-related stuff some other resorts might have (like day camps and stuff), but they put out bounce houses in the day and movies at night. There are five restaurants on the property, as well as a small beach and a pool, so you can definitely hang out there. It's a short cab ride away from Old San Juan, which is a cool city to walk around (though I'm not sure what you would do for a car seat in the cab). You could also rent a car; the hotel has parking for an extra fee.

Whatever you decide, have a great time!

I was also going to chime in to recommend the Caribe Hilton in Puerto Rico.  I LOVED this hotel, we stayed there in April for my babymoon, and there were tons of kids there.  I liked that they had a little cove that was like a mini beach (in addition to real beach) that was very shallow and warm, and nice to walk around in.  Plus, if you watch, airfare to Puerto Rico can be pretty cheap.  We got two roundtrip non stop tickets last October for under $200/each, and then in April they were around $300/each, with one short layover in ATL.

  • We just did a family trip to Beaches Turks & Caicos, which was very kid-friendly (the youngest in our group is 4, and we had three older kids as well).  They have a kids' camp, baby-sitting, a water park, and a lot of family-friendly restaurants.

  • Hi!

We took our kids and my parents to the Gran Caribe Real in Cancun, MX last Sept. DD basically lived at the Pirate Ship Pool, it is an AI (all-inclusive). I posted a review here, on the Travel Board and on TripAdvisor.

I picked Cancun b/c I wanted a direct flight out of IAD.

four different people in my office have gone to this same resort and love it.

I was looking into it for our trip last Fall and was really stung by sticker shock, that place is $uper expen$ive!  But totally awesome and we'll probably do it when the kids are older.
