Eastern Carribean vs Western Carribean Cruise
DH and I are about to take our first cruise and cannot decide between the eastern carribean and western carribean. We've found two cruises on two great boats but just can't decide which one to go on. We're really into relaxing and I want to do a little shopping. Our excursions would probably include a catamaran ride and snorkling, but nothing too intense like ziplining. Since I know I'd be happy on either boat, which location did you have the most fun at? TIA!
Re: Eastern Carribean vs Western Carribean Cruise
We've done both and highly prefer the Western Caribbean. I'm not really a fan of the Bahamas, and I feel like St. Thomas and Nassau are a part of every itinerary in the Eastern Caribbean. I've done 2 western itineraries.. I've done Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Ocho Rios and we just recently did Cozumel, Honduras, Belize, and Costa Maya.
Have you looked into a Southern Caribbean itinerary? That's our favorite :0)
Don't be afraid to try ziplining, we went for the first time at a cruise stop in Honduras last August and LOVED it! Hands down one of our favorite cruise excursions!

I hate the western carribean & think is soooooo boring. The eastern in much prettier & the shopping is better IMHO. Other people think the exact opposite.
Neither is bad. The were more "active" activities in the westerm & more history.
Flip a coin. It doesn't matter as much as you think. Do the one cruise now & if you get hooked on cruising do the other itinerary later.
I've been on both. If you're looking for more beaches to relax on, I'd say go Eastern. Typically it includes St. Maarten and St. Thomas, which both have great beaches. St. Thomas has shopping.
If you're interested in fun excursions, I'd say go Western, depending on the itinerary. In Ocho Rios you can climb Dunn's River Falls. I recommend a Sting Ray City excursion in Grand Cayman.
Done both, and hands down Eastern. My fav part was snorkeling at Paradise Island (private Holland America beach) and also Tortola, BVI- Virgin Gorda.
On the Western cruise we did enjoy the stingray swim and snorkel at Grand Cayman.
Have you checked out cruisecritic.com...it may help you decide to read about potential ships and ports.
DH and I have been on the following itineraries on Carnival:
Grand Cayman, Belize, Roatan, Cozumel
St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, St. Maarten
We preferred the first itinerary slightly, but it might have been because we chose better excursions.
