your best pulled pork recipe?

crockpot or oven is okay. My girlfriends and I are going on our (now) annual weekend in the woods/wine country soon and I want to make pulled pork and mac and cheese for a meal.

Kay's strata has already been demanded for breakfast again.

I am so excited, I love this weekend. Want to see the house we picked this time?

  • I endorse that pulled pork recipe.  It's so yummy.

ETA:  I'm endorsing Bob's recipe.  I've tried the kalua pork, and while it's good, it's not as good as the other one.

  • Aw, man, I want to stay in that house and drink wine and eat pulled pork.

  • ok, don't judge me.  Season a picnic roast with salt and pepper, and put it in a crock pot with root beer.  Cook on low for 8ish hours. Drain off the remaining liquid, shred with a couple of forks and mix with the bbq sauce of your choice.  I know, it sounds gross, and I don't even drink soda, but I swear it's amazing. It comes out so incredibly moist and tender, and just a little bit sweet.

I've made that Kalua pork, and while it's really good, I like this one so much better. Plus you don't have to cook it over night.

Boxer we did exactly that for my ILs over the holidays. Pulled pork is not a british thing I guess. They LOVED it. Also did you get my fb mail?

  • I like the skinnytaste one, but if I recall, it was falling apart much earlier than she suggested. My crock seems to cook most dishes faster than they recommend though.

  • I don't see a message from you.  The last fb message I have from you is from back in sept.

  • We just made pulled pork for New Years. Smother a pork shoulder with minced garlic (you can also add a tablespoon of liquid smoke combined with 2 cups water if you want) and slow roast for 8ish hours.

Drain, shred and mix with some homemade BBQ (which is super easy). Mix the following to taste:

    Ketchup
    Apple cider vinegar
    Worcestershire Sauce
    Liquid smoke
    Old bay seasoning
    Crushed red pepper
    Garlic powder
    Garlic salt
Your favorite hot sauce or some brown sugar, depending on if you want it spicy or sweet

  • 1/2 can of frozen orange juice (or one whole tiny can)

optional - 1/2 bottle (or more) of your favorite bbq sauce

Crock pot it low and slow.

  • We make it the way boxer does.  If we're feeling fancy, we'll add onions and use some spices as a rub before adding the pork.  It sounds nasty, but it's so good, and it's a big hit at the ski lodge.
  • Get pork shoulder or butt (6 lbs with a bone in it).  Cover the roast in papricka and onion flakes.  Massage it in.  Cover in liquid smoke.  Put in crock pot.  Cover it with a beer.  Turn the crock pot on High.  Go to bed.  Wake up.  Drain some liquid and reduce heat to low.  Cook until pork is off the bone.  Drain some liquid.  Cover with BBQ sauce.

  • This is the best ever. The slaw is really good too. We make it with broccoli slaw mix instead of cabbage.

  • Looks like you've got plenty to choose from, but here's one more.  From a thread on my neighborhood message board:

I bought an 8lb bone in shoulder picnic roast for 69cents/lb at Kroger yesterday. I covered it with worchestshire sauce and brown sugar and put it in a big dutch oven in about 2  inches of apple juice and slow roasted it at 250 for 5 hours. It was falling off the bone when I got it out. I pulled it apart with forks and tossed the fat and served it on fresh hamburger buns with Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce and chips and garden salad and cold beer . Everyone here is happy and I have five big freezer bags of pulled pork left over.
  • I also endorse Bob's recipe.
