New Construction Inspection
We're in the process of building. We'll for sure get an inspection prior to closing. We have our pre dry-wall meeting on Friday. Did any of you get an inspection prior to dry-wall? (the builder is required to have the city complete an inspection, but wondering if anyone hired a independent for an inspection).
Re: New Construction Inspection
We did - just to be sure - any of the major issues with new construction are best noticed prior to drywall. The inspector didn't find anything major, but it was well worth it as I have friends (and neighbors) who have all sorts of issues with their new construction and they didn't surface until AFTER the warrenty. My poor neighbor had to have pipes dug up from her front yard due to problems which caused horrible leaks in her basement AND something with the seal around the windows - the drywall covered it but she started to get water when it rained pouring in - they were not sealed propertly and the drywall was put around them - later it rotted with water damage. She didn't get the inspection and she has paid thousands and thousands. Of course this all started to happen about a month after the builder was no longer responsible for the repairs.
Take lots of pics and video so you have them for later - they come in handy when you want to do things down the road.
We are not. We were told any inspection that we do on our own, the builder/contractor does not have to follow. As long as it passes our township inspection, they are in the clear.
Dh is electrical savy, so he will know what to look for.
