Homemade crayons - well melted crayons into a mold
Hi ladies, my first post on your board... I want to make some crayons in the shape of lego bricks, i have the mold ordered and will be here soon... Has anyone does this, I think getting cheap crayons at the dollar store is a good idea but then i started thinking that getting crayola crayons is the way to go? does it matter if they are cheap? i know if I am gifting crayons i always buy crayola but does it matter for this project. these are going to be included in the favor bags for the kids. thanks!
Re: Homemade crayons - well melted crayons into a mold
It's been awhile since I have done something like this, but generally you want to buy crayons that you would like to color with. For me I would say definitely get the crayola crayons because they color the best. Cheapy crayons don't always work, and you aren't changing the crayon at all just remolding it. So if they don't color well in their original form they will not color well when remolded.
Hope this helps!

I did this for christmas several years ago..DO NOT use cheap crayons..
I used and electric skillet, filled it 2/3 with water. I put the crayons in baby food jars. Small enough to melt the crayons..no cutting cans etc. I bought the 64/96 box of crayons. I jsut made yellow with all the different shades mixed together. Depending on how many you are making, I-2 boxes will be plenty! And you can get some cool colors when mixing. If you put the silver/gold/bronze ones in, it will be shimmery!
Hope to help
I've done heart-shaped crayons in a silicon mold and the girls love them.
I am however going to be a naysayer about crayola crayons with this project. For whatever reason, getting the papers off of crayola crayons was really difficult, and the papers generally were super-easy to get off all the cheap free-from-restaurant crayons I used.
Be sure you let the crayons cool completely or else you'll break them trying to pop them out. Of course, it is really easy to fix that problem -- just put them back in the oven and remelt!
