St. Joe's Women's North

Does anyone know about this hospital?  It's on Van *** between the Veteran's and Dale Mabry.  I heard it's very nice since it is new, and I pretty much live equidistant to that St. Joe's and the other one.  I'm pretty sure my doctors deliver at both so I was considering looking into it.

TIA

Re: St. Joe's Women's North

  • I live around the corner, so I can vouch for it's location I guess.  The hospital never seems incredibly busy and I've been once to visit a friend - very nice, clean.

  • Yeah I know the location is good.. I go to Kohl's a lot over there, lol.

I'm just wondering if anyone has actually used the services of the hospital, either for baby or other.  I don't even really know what questions to ask, I just want someone who has actually used the hospital to tell me their opinion of it.

  • I delivered Mason there in July! It was an awesome hospital and the nurses were great. The main nurse who helped my doctor deliver the baby was named Tammy and she also taught my prepared childbirth class. She was the best!!!!!

Let me know what other questions or information you need. We can chat here or you can PM me but just let me know if you PM me as I never check it. :)

  • I went to the ER there once. They were nice, but did not figure out what was wrong with me and sent me home with my IUD implanted into my uterus and told me it was food poisoning. Not fun. I imagine that could happen at any ER and if I was ill, i would go there again. If we have another LO, I will be checking out the L&D there since it is only about 15 mins from my house. Let me know what you think if you go and check it out. Smile

  • Thanks for the responses girls.  I definitely am going to check it out.  I have my 20 week appt. on the 16th so I'm going to make sure my doctors deliver there and if so, I will be setting up something to go check it out.

I don't even know what type of questions to ask.... lol.

  • My pediatrition doesn't affiliate with St Joes North because to date they don't have a NICU.  He said they are starting to do more deliveries there but he doesn't recommend it because if there is a problem with the baby born there then they will have to be transported to St Joes Womens.  I loved St Joes Womens.  When we talk about our hospital stay sometimes H slips and says "when we were at the hotel".  It was comfortable and every single person we encountered was amazing.

You are correct in that they dont have a NICU. Luckily we did not have any problems but they have to deliver a certain amount of babies to get a NICU at the hospital. Your best bet would be to call the hospital and ask about the fact that they do not have a NICU and what would happen if you needed it. I know they can handle emergency's to a certain point but not sure what that point is. Like Sara said you would have to be transferred. If you are taking a prepared childbirth class at this hospital they will give you a tour of the L&D area.

  • Late response but thought I'd add more info: they have full menu lol and you can order anytime of the day as if you're in a hotel. Unlimited number of visitors at anytime of the day as well. Flat screen TV with Internet. I know these are just additional features but still good to know. The only con I believe is the NiCU not being available but like what pp said you can ask them what their procedures are in the event you need NICU service. A friend delivered there and she was satisfied.
