CIO sucks the big one.

We are at it again. We stopped for awhile because he had been sick, etc. But it was easy to get him to bed even still... we'd do our nighttime routine then DH would sit in the chair next to his bed and he'd be asleep within 10-20 minutes. Lately, it has been taking up to 1-1.5 HOURS for him to fall asleep, even with DH in the room. So last night we decided it was time to do CIO again. Tonight is only night 2 so it still sucks... I want to cave so bad. Someone remind me it's only bad for a few nights? Crying

Re: CIO sucks the big one.

  • Big hugs, Tiff! Stay strong, N will pick it back up in no time.
  • I feel your pain, and it DOES get better, and very quickly.

When Jack was in his crib, he went right to sleep, no problem. When we moved him from his crib to his toddler bed, either Steve or I would sit with him while he fell asleep, so that we could make sure he stayed in the bed. That was only supposed to last for a week at the most, but it turned into a permanent thing. Yuck. When I moved Jack into his new room and new full size bed in preparation for Carter being born, one of us still had to lay with him when he went to sleep or he would SCREAM. And it would take anywhere from 10 mins to 90 mins. I had many, many nights where I did nothing, or got nothing done because I was in his room.

So, I finally bit the bullet and did CIO with him again about a month ago. And yes, it sucked. But in less than a week we were done - he now climbs into bed, gives me a hug and a kiss and an "I love you" and lays down and goes to sleep.

Hang in there and stick with it!!!

  • I hope the night got better and that tonight isn't so bad. Good luck!
  • When CIO sucks just think to yourself how much suckier a toddler and TWO newborns all not sleeping will be!  That way, CIO will suck less ;)

Hang in there, Momma.  Youv'e done it before, you can do it again.  Nolan can do it to, he just prefers not to.
