she is now breech

Isla has been head down since 34 weeks, and today at 39w2d, she's flipped and is breech.  We're scheduled for L&D tomorrow to break my water and try to get her flipped.  I am so nervous about the possibility of a c-section.  To top it all off, DH is in bed with a fever, chills and nausea.  Flipping fantastic!

I guess the up side to all of this is that we're having a baby tomorrow!  Any home remedies for flipping the baby??

Re: she is now breech

  • OH NO for the breech baby switch! Yay for having baby tomorrow!! Looks like we will both be having our babies lol. I've got my c-section in the morning!! Fingers crossed yours doesn't end that way, but if it does, it does :) Which hospital are you going to be at?

  • We're going in at 11:30 to the Women's Hospital.  A c-section is never how I imagined this, especially since E's birth was so easy.  But, the episiotomy was no walk in the park for recovery, so maybe a c-section wouldn't be the end of the world!
  • I had an external cephalic version with my oldest. It was successful so I got to go home (I was 36 wks) and then went into labor 2 wks later. They will do an u/s, monitor the baby's heartrate, and then give you an injection to relax your uterus. The medication can make you feel a bit like your heart is racing or fluttering, I thought that was uncomfortable but nothing terrible. Then the Dr. will slather your belly with u/s gel & start turning the baby. Mine turned him a little at a time, and in between turns they would monitor his heart rate. It was extremely uncomfortable (I'm sorry, I don't know how else to put it) but thankfully only lasted a few minutes. I was thrilled that we decided to go through with it & it was successful.

I hope that helps! More importantly I hope everything goes smoothly tomorrow! how exciting!

  • When DS was breech, my MW said that after 37 wks there isn't much YOU can do to flip baby.  Hopefully the verzion will work!  Either way you get a baby!

    Good luck!

  • Naughty girl! :-) I don't know anything about flipping babies, but if you do end up with a c/s it's not SO bad. Oh and tell Dr. Martin hi for me!

This is good to hear!  If they can get her flipped, they will break my water to induce labor so she doesn't have a chance to flip back around.  I'm sure it won't be comfortable, but I'm all for trying whatever we can before we go to a c-section.

  • I know you're a fan of your chiropractor. Depending on what time you go in - there is a thing called the Webster method that a chiropractor can do that is supposed to help flip babies. Google that one.

The other is an acupuncture thing they do in the top of your head called moxibustion. You can google that too if you want.

But - if you're headed in tomorrow I'd say just stick with your plan. I hope the version works for you. Either way, I'm super excited to see pictures of your little lady. You're so close to being a mom of two [outside] babies! Eep! :-)

  • Good luck tomorrow!!! I hope they get her flipped around and, if not, c-sections aren't awful..but then again, that is all I have had, haha.

At least you get to meet baby Isla tomorrow regardless!!!

  • I vaguely recall something about putting a bag of frozen veggies on top of your stomach while sitting in a nice warm bath.
  • Good Luck tomorrow! I hope they get her turned, but most of all c-section or not...you will be a mommy to 2 beautiful girls tomorrow! Good Luck and can't wait to hear about it!

This made me laugh out loud! The mental picture is just too funny on 0 hours of sleep.

Good luck tomorrow and no matter how it ends, a healthy baby is the best end result!  I agree with all pp's... what a naughty little girl and before she even gets here!

Good luck to you too!  Can't wait to get my fix of birth stories and baby pictures to get my baby fever in check!  Hope all goes well =)

Yes, Dr Martin does excellent c-sections!  ;)  We talked external version with the midwives when I was about 36 weeks with C, but at that point I was almost 4 cm dialated and they didn't want to risk my water breaking or going into labor right then and there because of that, so we didn't try it...it didn't sound all that fun to me either...glad I got the c-section!!  Either way, good luck and keep us posted!  Let me know if you need anything!!
