BWLO who regularly STTN, but suddenly don't.

Zac regularly STTN.

Last night, for what ever reason he woke up at midnight and then again at 5 AM. This wasn't the usual dream, or I bumped my head on my crib rail wake-up, he was flat out crying for our attention. Each time saying Mommy and/or Daddy, "Dink" (drink).

Both times we got up and carried him into the kitchen (he'd scream if we tried to say, "I'll go get you a drink"), got him a drink and he went right back to sleep after. FWIW, he seemed legit thirsty by the way he guzzled down the water.

I'm afraid of creating a bad habit though.

What do you think? Just a phase? Playing the game for attention? Or maybe, he really was just thirsty?

  • If he guzzled the water and went right back to sleep, I'd say he was legit thirsty. Most times when toddlers just want attention, they don't go right back to sleep, and continue to find reasons for you to get up. I believe Jill had issues with that with Alex.

  • Do you have a humidifier in his room? With heat blowing, if he is at all congested (breathing through his mouth), his throat would get really dry.

I agree with Katie that he was probably legit thirsty or had a dry throat.  I know it would wake me up.

  • Like others, if he really drank the water and then went back to bed he was thirsty.  See what happens tonight, if it happens again, maybe just put a sippy of water in his crib??
  • I'm thinking along the same lines as these ladies, since he did go right back to sleep.

Then again I had the crazy kid who decided to get up every day of our break last week at 5:10 - way too freaking early.  And now that we're all back to work/daycare this week?.... we've had to wake her up every day around 6:30 to get out the door on time.  Seriously?!

  • Landon isn't old enough to talk yet, well not really talk, but he's been waking up sometimes too. He'll just scream and scream like he's hurt. So I go in and he's sitting in the crib bawling. As soon as I tell him it's okay and hold him for like 1 min, I can lay him down awake and he'll go back to sleep. I think he's dreaming.
