So, we are getting new TVs. We have only had one for years, but we are replacing that and getting two more (one of the bedroom and one for the new den)
We are getting a 40" for the LR
32" for the BR
and 22" for the den
In the LR and BR, we have a ton of light from windows, so our only options are LG or SHarp because they are the only two brands who make the matte screens that cut glare.
Does anyone have either of these sets? My dad has 2 LGs and loves them but I would love more input
On the 22" in the den, we would like to get one with an integrated DVD/blueray (can blueray play DVDs, because if not then we want DVD). I know those can be somewhat unreliable, but this TV would be cheap enough due to its size anyway that I am not worried unless it's a total POS.
Also, does LED really matter?
We are thinking 1070p for the 40" but lower for the other two since the size won't matter and 120 Hz for the 40" but 60 for the other two, based on research, but the LED is the one thing I am waffling about (for the 40"). We hear that it can be thinner and that it gives of less heat and is more energy efficient, but we are wonderig if it's a big difference or not?
And we are not gamers and probably won't upgrade to HDTV. We just don't care about picture that much.
Re: Help me shop for TVs
I don't think your statement about LG and Sharp being the only ones to make matte screens that cut glare is true. We have a Samsung that has a matte screen. Not sure if it's because it's older and they stopped making them that way, but I thought they still had two versions/lines available - one being matte and one glossy. Also this article is a few months old but compares other brands of matte screen tv as well. http://reviews.cnet.com/2795-6482_7-378.html
As far as the LED goes, I don't typically think the extra cost involved is worth it. It's still basically an LCD tv just backlit with LED. I think most LCD tvs have already gotten much thinner since we bought ours and it's not like ours is that thick. Not sure what the difference in energy efficiency is though.
