I think it's age (I mean, it's been like, almost 10 years since he was on AI, right?) + bad angle + bad makeup.
I've always liked him, though. I met him once and he was very sweet.
He went to the same college that DH and I went to (well just where I got my masters from, DH got his undergrad and grad degrees there), he has somewhat of a fan base following here! The dorm where he lived is supposedly marked as such. MIL looooooves him, lol.
