Need help with Houston Airports

My family is going on a cruise from Galveston and I need to book a flight for my parents.  I will be driving from Dallas so I will pick them up at the airport, which airport is more convenient.

Re: Need help with Houston Airports

  • You will drive by both IAH and HOU on your way to Galveston from Dallas, they are equally convenient.

    yep... this.

I find Hobby(HOU) to be easier to navigate (both inside as a passenger and outside as a driver picking up) if that matters to you/your parents.

    This.

However, I think that Hobby is a bit easier to navigate as a traveler. It is much smaller than IAH and far less crowded. Not sure where your family is flying in from, but Southwest Airlines is a good airline that flies into Hobby.

  • Thanks, I guess I book whichever is cheaper.  They are flying from NY so Southwest won't work, they need a direct flight.  Can't chance missing the boat.
  • Will you be picking them up on their return to Galveston or will they have a shuttle back to the Airport?  That will make a HUGE difference.  If they are going to be taking a shuttle back to the airport after their cruise then they need to fly into Hobby.

  • Anyone flown into hobby lately? I hear there is a lot of construction in the surrounding area and that one of the main streets in is closed. I have no idea which one though! A friend is organizing a weekend where many people are flying in and she keeps telling them NOT to fly into hobby. Maybe because she doesn't want to have to pick anyone up there!

We have and it isn't nearly as bad as the news is making it out to be.  I still found it pretty easy to navigate.

  • I didn't find driving to Hobby any different over the holidays.  I think the construction has just made the overnight parking lots fuller?
  • I'd recommend Hobby; picking up passengers is super easy and it's convenient access to/from I-45.

  • I also recommend Hobby.  It is so much easier to navigate.  Southwest has direct flights in and out of Newark.
