Dragon Tattoo- book vs movie *possible spoilers*

i saw the movie last weekend but haven't read the books (plan to do that ASAP)

i'm just wondering if the movie ending is the same as the book? or close to it? if so, does the 2nd book keep the story going or is it new characters?

Re: Dragon Tattoo- book vs movie *possible spoilers*

  • The second book, without going into spoilers too much, is basically focusing more on Lisbeth and her past which then introduces new things, too. I liked the second two books a lot. The second and third book are both kind of a continuation of the same story line, the themes were somewhat hinted at or alluded to in the first.

There are some of the same characters (not as much with the Vanger family though) like Lisbeth, and Mikael, Erika, etc, and new characters as well

  • The movie ending is slightly different. They changed Harriett's ending, but not the ending with Mikel and Lisbeth.

The characters in the books are all the same.

  • okay, thanks! these books have been on my list forever but i just havent gotten them. then i saw the movie was out and told dh i really wanted to go. LOVED it.

i was putting for lisbeth so i didn't like the ending. i dont like erika.

i want to start reading NOW! haha

  • I thought the movie was great and really did justice to the book (one of the best book to movie translations I can think of).

The real strong point of the movie was how well they built Lisbeth's character. I am actually expecting to like the second movie better than the second book!

yeah, i usually dont like to watch movies first because i love to read and the books are ALWAYS better but this movie was so good it just made me want to read the book even more!

I agree!  The things that they changed for the movie were relatively small.

I didn't love the change with the Harriet ending, but I didn't hate it.  Also not exactly how they were in the book:

    -noose/plastic bag

    -how Martin dies

-Lisbeth mentions her father in the movie (we know in the book she would never willingly talk about him)

hmm, there were a couple other small changes (Lisbeth tells Nils to stop visiting tattoo removal sites, in the book he went to a doctor...)  Clearly I'm over analyzing everything and I'm crazy.

  • Didn't Mikael go to jail for his libel suit as well? Also, they totally skipped the other person that Mikael slept with in the book.

    Yes.

Also- in the book, Lisbeth's first guardian (can't remember his name) was in a coma after his stroke and the doctors told her that he would never wake up.

  • Not to mention that her Mom isn't in the movie at all. They seem to have substituted her relationship with her guardian for her relationship with her Mom in the movie. Except for the dying part.
My hope is your story will be about changing.-A Million Miles Daisypath Happy Birthday tickers
