Union Square Hotels, San Francisco

Has anyone ever stayed in one of the hotels near Union Square in San Francisco?

I have a convention in March, and it looks like most hotels are either currently booked or way above the government per diem rate.  One that caught my eye was the Powell Hotel- anyone ever stay here?

Any other suggestions?

  • My husband is going to SF for a conference in March and found The Prescott had really good rates.

  • My husband and I stayed at JW Marriott for a work conference and I loved it. Overnight parking was $50? That was the standard, check that out before you book the hotel if you are renting a car. Any of the hotels in the Unioin Square vicinity are pretty exceptional.

  • I regularly stay at The Prescott and the Westin St. Francis for work.  Both are fine.

For play, I pricelined or otherwise got a deal for the following:

    the fitzgerald
    hotel nikko
    the orchard hotel
    warwick san francisco hotel

With the exception of the first hotel (yikes), all sufficed.  They were nothing very exciting, but they worked.

  • we were in SF for 3 nights in October, and stayed at the Chancellor Hotel.  Great location.  it's an older hotel, but nicely remodeled.  and reasonably priced, IMO.  I really liked it.

there's no A/C in the rooms, so I wouldn't want to stay there in the summer, but I think you'd be okay in March.

  • Check out Inn at Union Square -we have stayed there twice.  Its not even a block from Union Square.  Its small, boutique style hotel-I think 30 or so rooms. Even thugh its close to Union Sq-it was never noisy.  The fresh breakfast is good-and they always had fresh cookies and wine in the evenings.
