*Star* - Disney with a Toddler Tips
Hey Lady: How was Natalie's birthday?
Question for you. We are going to be in the Tampa area next week and are planning a day trip (~2 hr drive) to Disney. We figure with one day and a 19 month old the best bet is to go to the Magic Kingdom. IIRC there is an area with Mickey and Minnie where you can meet characters? I think she'd be into that. Also, maybe some more kiddo rides (small world? teacups?).
Sound about right? Anything else you'd suggest or remind me not to miss?
Thanks!
Re: *Star* - Disney with a Toddler Tips
Hey! Natalie's birthday was really great, thanks for asking! We celebrated on Tuesday with the ILs while watching the bowl game, and yesterday we took her to see The Muppets which went over very well. We will celebrate with my family tomorrow (at the Olive Garden-- hah!)
I definitely think your best bet is the MK with Jane. I have a lot of love for the other parks and might even skip MK if it were just adults (blasphemy, I know!) but with a toddler you really can't beat it. The area you might be recalling was called Mickey's Toon Town Fair, and it has now been closed down to make room for the Fantasyland expansion that should be complete by the end of next year, but you can still meet Mickey and usually Minnie in their temporary relocation, which I believe is currently next to Tony's Town Square Restaurant near the park entrance. Park map should confirm that along with meet and greet hours.
Tip while you're in that area of the park: If you want to get Jane a Mickey ears hat with her name, get it at The Chapeau, the little hat shop near Tony's. They do the embroidering on the spot and they're much faster than any other place I've tried. If Mickey is available right when you get there, you may want to get the hat and then see him right off the bat since both locations are right at the park entrance.
I would say try to do: , Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, Dumbo (but only if the wait is reasonable), Haunted Mansion if you don't think she will be scared, it's a small world, Jungle Cruise, Mad Tea Party, Winnie the Pooh, Mickey's Philharmagic, Monster's Inc Laugh Floor, Peter Pan, and Pirates of the Caribbean.
Carousel of Progress Hall of Presidents are perfect for naps/ breaks! Don't stress if you miss the parades or shows; they require a lot of waiting and standing that is hard for toddlers. We skip them since lines are a lot shorter while everyone is watching the parade.
Let me know if you have any questions about dining-- counter vs. table service and who to contact, etc. There are also character dining experiences (Mickey and the Gang or Pooh & Friends) that are available. I'm also aware of a "baby's first haircut" ceremony at the Main Street Barber Shop... I wish we could have done that!
I hope that helps, definitely ask questions if you have them! You will have such a blast!
