I have been wanting to get checked for STDs for awhile now just to have peace of mind. I'm not having symptoms or anything but it has been a few years since I have been. Problem is .... my insurance has a large deductible so asking my gyno could be expensive. I get free services at work but obviously I don't want all my coworkers going through my results. There are sites online where you pay and get a requisition and then you just go to a nearby lab and get it done. I've never used anything like this but it seems like the best way to go so I can ensure my privacy and not have to pay up the azzzzz in fees from my insurance. It can be done the same day. Obviously I can interpret and understand my own test results so cutting out the middle man of a doctor would cut down on cost.
WWYD?

Re: WWYD
Why don't you call the insurance company to find out if it's covered under a regular office visit (co-pays don't apply toward deductible right?). Or can you go to Planned Parenthood?
Edited for typos
I was going to suggest PP.
They see us rollin'...they be hatin'.
If you have a deductible, then copays are not in place until the deductible is met unless it is for a routine service such as an annual physical. Most insurances work like this. In a former life I dealt with all this insurance mumbo jumbo.
Planned parenthood is a viable option but they do actually cost a decent amount if you have a job, etc. Last time I went there they told me since I have student loans that this applies to my income and I ended up being upper middle class and had to pay just like I was at a normal doctors office.
How big is your work? If it's small, then no, I wouldn't do it. If it's big, what are the chances that someone will put two and two together? It's not like you're getting a big bed sore on your butt changed in front of all of your co-workers, it's proactive testing, which is a responsible thing.
If you're super freaked out, I'd do the internet thing and outside lab route.
Yes, my work is very small and filled with tons of inter-office drama. People are nosey.
Best thing to do is call the member service number on your insurance card and ask them if you get it done during an annual gyno screening if you will be subject to the deductible. There are services that are exempt from the deductible with most insurances.
No respect for HIPAA? I'd get some biitches fired over that.
You're only interested in bloodwork? If you end up needing treatment, wouldn't you want your GYN on board from the beginning?
Well when labs results are sent back from the lab they come through the fax so anyone that grabs those, sees them obviously. If I somehow needed treatment for something I could bring it up to my gyno when I am at her office for my yearly at the end of the month. Just looking for a cheaper route for the testing. My insurance doesn't cover all the testing and I am also out of network.
I am surprised Planned Parenthood was expensive for you. That is where I went and I have a good paying job. It was around 100 dollars but worth the peace of mind.
