Rockhouse Negril - Anyone been?
We're going next month and am uber-excited, all the reviews I've read have been ah-mazing. I'm just wondering if anyone has actually been there? Or about the cliffs in general - any must-do's/eats? I have Just Natural, 3 Dives, and the restaurants at the hotel all wrote down as "musts" but am sure I'm missing something.
We've been to Negril before(stayed at an AI), but stayed on the beach last time and ate at Ricks, Xtabi and Rockhouse.
TIA

Re: Rockhouse Negril - Anyone been?
There's a restaurant next door called Sips & Bites that has good Jamaican food. It's very small and low key, so it's good for an easy lunch. We went in 2006 but it looks like it's still getting good reviews on TripAdvisor.
Have fun! We loved Rockhouse.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

We stayed there several years ago--before the expansion. It is truely fabulous. Very quiet and low key. DH was writing papers for grad school, so we spent a lot of time just lazing at the pool or jumping off the cliffs. Water was too choppy for snorkling, sadly.
We were only there for a long weekend, so mostly ate at the hotel. Had lunch down at the beach a couple of days but can't remember where... just remember that it was a weekend and there were lots of locals.
Are you taking your son? That must have changed with the new management. When we went, Rockhouse didn't permit children under a certain age for safety reasons.
Nope, DS is staying at home with his grandparents. We're big believers in having good balance of both family and couples vacation. We were in FL for 10 days visiting my snowbird parents in Dec so that was a nice "family" trip and now we're ready for a week with just the two of us. As much as we love DS and will miss him, we still enjoy our travels as just a couple. Luckily, we have 2 sets of grandparents that fight over spending time with him so we get the best of both worlds :-)
Awesome! My 4-year-old is a handful, and I'd be totally nervous about having him running around there--I'd probably have to leash him! Which would mean cutting down on daquiris and a yummy pineapple juice/rum thing they have called "Under The Thatch."
We were there over Thanksgiving one year, and the next year I e-mailed the resort for the recipe (is that the right word for a cocktail?) for Under The Thatch so I could surprise my husband.
Great. Now I want to ditch my kids and go to Negril.
BTW - they do still have the no kids under 14 or something rule, that's one of the reasons we picked it :-) Along with the fact we fell in love with the resort when we were there on our HM(stayed at Couples Negril) and ate dinner at the RH.
YUM, I can't wait to have MANY Under the Thatches :-)
6 weeks and counting!
This is exactly how we felt when we stayed at CN and ate at the Rockhouse for dinner, that night I swore we'd stay there when we returned. I can't wait! Thanks for your input.
Kimee: Something to get you in the mood:
Under the Thatch
one shot coconut rum,
one part soda water,
grenadene to taste
Squeeze of lime juice
two part pineapple juice,
shake over ice and serve.
If you don't want it too sweet, go short on the grenadine and long on the lime!
