? for hospital HR people (or similar)

New RN grad nurse here.  All our hospitals have a new grad application - so the same for everyone, but we title it ourselves.

How do I get my resume to stand out from the other thousand new RN grads?  I have my two year RN, but do have a B.A in psych, so I'm thinking to do something like "Bachelors educated RN, new grad."  I'd like to grab them saying I have a BA, but would HR be annoyed when they notice it's a psych BA and not a BSN?

TIA!

  • I think it's misleading to say "bachelors educated RN" when your degree is not in nursing.  Honestly, in my experience (I'm also a RN) the way to get a job in a hospital is to know someone. Did you work as a tech or aide during school? Do you have any instructors who can help you meet a director of a unit?

I agree, just wanted to check.  I have been volunteering (in addition to doing clinicals) at a local hospital since May, but they recently hired a bunch of new RNs on the floor I'm on and the manager told me they don't have anything right now.  I've toyed with the idea of just walking up to HR (in my volunteer top, so they don't think I'm too crazy) and handing them my resume, but I'm unsure...

  • What about nursing at a community based mental healthy facility? Your psych background would definitely help you stand out.
  • agree... also, I wouldn't just waltz into HR. If anything, I'd call and make an appointment. I would expect that they wouldn't entertain that though. There are so many applicants trying to get jobs that I'm sure they would just tell you the application procedure.
