Moms: Crib Quilt

Did you eventually use the quilt from your crib bedding set once your LO was older and/or in their toddler bed?

I don't mind paying for a whole set when I'm not going to use just the bumpers, but there's no point in getting the whole thing if I won't use 50% of it. I really do want the crib skirt and curtains to make, so I'm hoping I can find separates of a set and just get fitted sheets in solid colors.

Where did you get your bedding from?

Re: Moms: Crib Quilt

  • I haven't used the comforter for Dylan at all.  It's kinda poofy and stiff and I don't think it would be that great to use.  I got Dylan's bedding at Target.

I haven't used the quilt that came with Keira's bedding yet, but will once she gets older.  It is more of a soft blanket rather than comforter-like so I plan to use it.  I guess it just depends on the bedding set.  I got hers on Amazon.

  • We registered for our bedding at Pottery Barn Kids. We registered for the items separately because we didn't want the bumper (we chose a breathable mesh bumper at BBB instead).

We chose the quilt, crib skirt and fitted sheets (a few different sheets) for the crib. We'll put the quilt on the back of the glider in the beginning, but when we convert to a toddler bed, we're planning to use it as a bedspread.

  • I've never used the quilt from B's set, not even as decor in his room. Like pp mentioned, it was poofy and not very soft. For Baby #2 (in the far, far future) I will get separates that coordinate, especially since I use breathable bumpers.

  • I actually had Ada's bedding made by a family friend - she's K's sister's MIL.

Anyway, we found curtains we loved at IKEA and bought them along with the matching duvet set in queen size - I sent her the duvet set and she made a crib skirt and matching coverlet - like a quilt but without the stuffing, more as decor now but will be a nice blanket for Ada when she's ready. I also bought coordinating flannel and she made a sheet for the crib. She does amazing work and also did our bassinet lining and sheets for that. She has an eBay store and would work with you if you decide you want something custom - but obv then you can't register for it, etc. But let me know if you want her info.

  • Considering she hasn't even slept in her crib nor is she old enough for a blanket but we didn't get a set. I have a random assortment of bottom sheets and had our crib skirt made. I don't see a need for a blanket... we got tons of other blankets as gifts that she could use to sleep with when the time comes.
  • I got Levi's bedding from BRU.

I initially had the quilt on the back of the rocking chair.  As he got a little older, if I was upstairs doing stuff, I'd lay the quilt on the floor for him to do tummy time on.  When he was about 9ish months, I washed the quilt again and started putting in his crib because it was getting cold.

For the next baby, if we decide to get different bedding, I think we'll go with a softer blanket instead of quilt.

ETA:  The only thing I didn't use from his bedding set was the diaper hanger.

  • My MIL made coverlets and curtains and, in theory, will be making bedskirts.

We got about at least half a dozen fuzzy blankets as gifts (besides the usual receiving blankets), so we have no shortage.  I have no idea what they'll want/need in the way of blankets as toddlers, so its not a concern right now.The babies use my baby blanket/quilt and my cousin's 10 yr old twins' quilt when they play on the floor.

We have a variety of fitted sheets and breathable bumpers.

Claire, that sounds super awesome :)

  • We haven't used any bumpers, so we bought the crib skirt and fitted sheets seperately (from BRU). We haven't used a blanket yet, especially since Eli sleeps face down with his butt in the air and I'm sure it wouldn't stay on even if we tried.

  • I just have a crib skirt that I liked and solid color fitted sheets to match.  I had a few sets that I liked, but same as you, it was hard to justify spending all that $ when you can't use half of it.

A friend's mom did make us a blanket that matches though and is the right size, so once he's old enough to use it in the crib, or we convert the crib to a todler bed, we'll use that as the comforter.

  • P's is still hanging on the wall.  The bumper is in the attic, the skirt was a pain; it never fit right and interfered w/ the drawer underneath.  We used the sheet, that's about it.  We splurged and bought from Land of Nod. Total waste of money.  Especially since I can count the number of times he slept in his crib before we converted it to the toddler bed a year ago on one hand.  Also, he still hates blankets and they bunch up at the foot of the bed.

A couple of months ago we let P pick out his toddler bed ensemble, which is Toy Story themed.   We wanted him to have a top sheet.  Not that he uses it.

I am thinking of painting over everything and doing a sports theme this summer.  If the next one is anything like him (and I'm anything like I was) we won't need a nursery.  If we have a boy, he'll most likely share a room with P when he gets older.  If we have a girl, we'll figure it out when the time comes.  But I'll only be buying a couple of crib sheets if anything.

  • We got our set from JCP and I've used every piece of it since Day 1.  Well, I didn't use the quilt until she moved into her crib at 12 weeks, but she's used it every night since.  She never rolled in her sleep until she was much older, so we never feared for her safety and with Central Air in summer and cold winters she needed something to cover her.  She hated sleep sacks.  We've also used the bumpers since day one and will with #2 as well.  We'll actually be using the same quilt with #2 as M is switching to her big girl bedding.
