Thursday--AW or Whatever!

I am not a cyclops today--I got my left one in very quickly because I did it first.  My right one tried to be a jerk but I eventually got it in.

I'm meeting Wendi today at her work because I'm considering having a surprise birthday party for my brother this March.  He turns 30!!!!  And, I've decided on a theme for the graduation party I'm throwing for a group of students.  "Oh the Places You'll Go" and I got an email back from a girl who works at the blog "The Hostess with the Mostest" with some ideas.  I feel kind of special.

Re: Thursday--AW or Whatever!

  • Congrats! Sounds like a really good party.

    I already AW yesterday.

  • My face is still itching so bad that I want to claw it off.  I'm still not sleeping well at night and it was night #4 last night.  I have an appointment with a new doc today and I hope she's nice as I wasn't able to get one with the lady I wanted.

I've started straightening my hair and I'm digging it.  The only problem is that you can really tell how thin my hair is compared to when it's curly.

  • Whatever #1:  I had the strangest dreams last night.  An old friend that I haven't seen in at least a year made an appearance, and someone had 8 kids (as in, octuplets) that were about 3, and they were so cute but they had the creepiest eyes.  There was something else weird that I remembered earlier, but I can't remember it now.  I also haven't been sleeping very good - I wake up at any movement, and it's hard to go back to sleep.  My best sleep is from 6.45 until I drag myself up, in between alarm snoozes.  It's pretty pathetic.

Whatever #2:  I also sound like a 70 year old smoker.

My AW:  I leave tomorrow for Fort Lauderdale!  I have done very little research about what we should do while we're there, so I hope it still ends up being fun.

  • I don't have an AW.

Today's the five year anniversary of the day Mack's cousin was murdered, a girl we all adored, and it's just hard to realize it's been that long. Couple that with a really demoralizing workout and Dorothy being pukey, and I feel like I should just go back to bed and try again tomorrow.

*Hugs* Hope your day gets better!

  • Shortgirl, what is going on with your face? I must have missed that.

My AW is that according to Ben's estimate, we are getting close to $4K back on our taxes!  We thought it would be half that.  So that is super cool.

I am ridiculously excited to do our taxes this year.  We get to itemize for the first time ever!    Yes, I am a complete nerd.

  • Chelsea - I'm sorry you are having a rough day.  :(

We ordered a new chair for our living room and it was delivered today.  Technically I ordered this chair before the holidays, but it arrived damaged.  So, I had to send that chair back and order another chair.  I really hope it's not damaged.  Hopefully I have a chair by book club, so my living room doesn't look so bare.

  • I had a really strange TN dream last night.  Sarah started a post and it said: "Thanks Deepthi for opening the door.  We didn't want to announce until we knew the gender, but our little boy, Noel Randowel, will be here in April."  We, as a group, were all so confused about the name!

DH and I are going to start up our Thursday date nights again.  I am excited to try a new place to eat and start talking about our 2012 vacation!

  • I have a huge sense of relief because, with the exception of one class, I have caught up on all my grading.  Now, I get the task of emailing parents and telling them that their kids won't pass the six weeks and maybe not the semester.  Fun....

Hahaha! How strange! You can actually Thank Bri for the outing. She knows how to push my buttons. Sarah is there something you need to tell us?

  • All right, now that I've started wearing my contacts, I will need some sunglasses.  I bought two cheap pair from Charming Charlie to get me through but I'm going to need something better because they get lighter as the progress down the lenses (Bill called it progressive but Ray Ban apparently calls it a gradient).  I was going to beg for a pair from Coach but I wasn't that impressed when I saw them online.  Do any of you girls have ones that you really like or a place that you go buy them?  I have to have really dark due to light sensitivity--this guy is working with Josh Hamilton's optometrist and he says that I have what Josh Hamilton has.  TIA!

My DH swears by any lense that is polarized.  I think they just make stuff look weird, but they are super dark.

I have 2 pair of Coach glasses and they are just plasic glasses and lenses, just like you would get anywhere.  I doubt if they would be dark enough.

Don't waste your time.  I left my beloved Coach sunglasses in a fitting room at Stein Mart and went to get new ones -- I paid $150 for a pair of plastic sunglasses.  I like them but cannot believe the poor quality compared to what I bought just a few years ago.

  • I just got the best manicure at lunch!  This lady was so quick, but thorough.  She even came out from behind the table and rubbed my neck and shoulders.  I asked if I could take her home!

LOL.  I always wanted to take home my old hairdresser.  My hair never turned out like she did it.

  • Julie, I agree about the polarized lenses - they help protect your eyes from the harmful rays, in addition to the brightness.  I have some RayBans and like them alright, and used to have some Revo's and loved them.  The Revo's were black tinting, as opposed to the brownish color, and I loved how they made colors look more vivid even though they blocked a lot of sun.  Sadly, they were stolen, and I couldn't find anything similar last time I went for new shades.  My RayBans are the brownish color, and I don't think they do as good of a job at blocking the brightness.

The salon I go to does mini facials during the shampoo as part of the haircut price.  It's a small salon, so it's just the owner cutting hair, and she normally does the shampoo & facial too.  When she's busy though, her assistant will do them to help her get caught up, and he's 10x better.  He does a serious head/face massage, and it always just feels so great that I hope she's busy every time I go now :)

I wish I knew!  I got a new Aveeno product last week and used it a couple of times and like Julie warned, it dried out my skin so I stopped using it.  Then starting Sunday my face just itched like crazy and now my neck and ear lobes itch constantly, I have small red dots at the bottom of my neck on my left side and then every so often my right side of my neck is all red.  So I don't think it's the Aveeno stuff but I'm not sure what is causing it as I have gone back to using my old products that I've used for years.  The dr. said to take Zyrtec instead of Allegra so I went and bought some after my appointment.

  • Sara and Lacey- You are both looking good!  Would have never guessed your age but I honestly can say that about everyone on this board.

    LOL at "Noel Randowel"

RE taxes- I LOVE doing them.  Everyone complains about it but I love it.  The only thing I would like to do differently is that I would like to get everything in order so that we don't get a refund but yet not owe anything either because that $4k could have been in your savings account accruing interest.

That's why I only use it on my pimples and I use the Dramatically Different from Clinique over it.  If you can, maybe try hitting the Clinique counter.  They have an awesome cream for "stressed" skin and it's soothing and never caused me any issues.

Usually if my skin doesn't like something it turns red but it never did so I was really shocked and thought I was okay besides the dryness.  I used Aveeno's Ultra Calming stuff for a few days but that didn't calm it down.  Dramatically Different is fabulous stuff.

Yes this is us too--but since Ben is self-employed, we use my paycheck to pay his taxes and while we usually estimate it pretty well, I made a lot more money this year than he was expecting, hence the big refund.  Oh well, I'll take it!  We'd rather do it this way than owe.

And like Ben told me this morning, he calculated it out and we only lost approximately $80 in interest.  (Yes, he's that anal.)
