LifeStyle Change (aka Diet) Tip of the Week

We talked about doing this and some of us mentioned things that worked for us.  But I thought I would do a separate post.

Two things that worked really well for me this week were:

- brushing my teeth in the afternoons.  Snacks don't taste yummy after that.  I bought Colgate Wisps and they are perfect!  I have some in my purse and some in my desk drawer.

- Water...  I had a really hard time drinking enough water b/c the water cooler was on the opposite end of the building (first world problem, I know).  I got a mini water dispenser for my desk (Hello Kitty to boot) and it is 64 oz.  I drink at least that every day now.

What has worked for you?

Re: LifeStyle Change (aka Diet) Tip of the Week

  • Having a stomach bug has been incredibly effective in curbing my appetite recently.  However, I don't recommend it.

I do recommend seltzer, though.  A splash of OJ makes it a refreshing and far less sweet orangia with a fraction of the calories.  I get bored of plain water but I never get bored of seltzer.  In fact, we have a huge CO2 tank just to keep us in supply of seltzer.

  • i always add a few splashes of juice - usually orange or cranberry (sometimes unsweetened) - to my water and drink it from a giant-sized starbucks mug. i usually have like 4+ of these daily. people often comment that it looks good a few people have started doing it themselves. i am very bad about drinking plain water at work if i don't do this.

i love seltzer too. i think because my grandpa loved seltzer. i like it with a splash of juice or just a lot of fresh lemon.

another seltzer tip: wine spritzers. on ww 4oz wine means two big wine spritzers!

  • The stomach bug really has a thing for curbing an appitite and the though of food makes me want to Ick!

(don't recommend the stomach bug)... here's what's always been a fall back for me:

I always carry sugar free gum and when I get the urge at work (boredom) to eat then I munch on a piece of gum.  You'll be suprised how really not hungry you are when you have gum.

  • I've been having a clementine after lunch (instead of my usual mini candy bar). It's sweet enough to curb my craving and much healthier.

For water, I bring two liter Sigg bottles in every day and drink them both. I used to have a hard time getting through just one, but if it's on my desk I will drink it.

  • Instead of soda I've been drinking other stuff, chai, tea (hot and cold), and hot chocolate.  I'm going to try a month of no soda and see how it goes.  We have a Kuerig at work and I bought myself some Kcups and hot beverage cups so I could use it!

I'm also waking up earlier so I can put together a breakfast and lunch for myself.

  • I don't have any good tips I've used this week specifically.  But a general one I use to lighten up recipes is to half the protein and double the veggies.  Also, cookinglight.com has become my best friend.

Oooh, I thought of one for the WW girls -- the scanner app is out and it's awesome!  It doesn't have Trader Joe's products (booooo) but it does have my Wegmans products (yay!  those aren't on the website's listings so I was surprised the products worked on the scanner!).
