House Update stuff
So we closed on the house and moved in the weekend before Halloween. Love love love love the place, the neighborhood is amazing etc.
Had an awesome holidays, but sparse due to renovating, painting, more painting, ripping off hideous wall paper (who even thinks to use wallpaper anymore?) more painting, landscaping, installing invisible fence, more painting... did I mention we are PAINTING??
So, onto the issue: Everyone keeps asking to see the place...which would be wonderful, but we have no where to sit. We moved from a very small apartment to this 5 bedroom house. We literally have NO FURNITURE. We are using folding chairs and camping chairs in our living room and all the bedrooms have nothing in them, besides the master which has our mattress... basically on the floor. Our kitchen table is miniscule and only seats 4. We haven't had time, money or the patience to go furniture shopping and our friends, coworkers and family are already knocking down our doors to come stay for long wkends, host parties, and not to mention were really pissed we didn't entertain everyone over the holidays.
Do I just tell everyone to "go fly a kite" and give us 4-6 more months to get our act together? or Do I suck it up and have them over to our really really tacky folding chair house.
Re: just about 3 months but still no furniture
Because you asked, I sense that you wouldn't be comfortable having people over to view a pretty empty home. And considering you moved in right before the holiday season started, I would definitely be telling people that you haven't gotten through decorating/etc so you aren't wanting guests just yet.
I do however think waiting so so long to allow people to come over is silly. I know it's a moot point, but some money probably should have been allocated for furniture. I could live with ugly wallpaper for a while but I'm going to get tired to using lawn chairs sooner rather than later. Why not take your tax return money and buy a nice sofa or bedroom furniture?
Above all, if you don't have the means (seats) to entertain friends, they shouldn't get pissy. You never know -- someone might get so fed up, they'll gift you some furniture! Joke!!!
Do the creep.
I would tell them to suck it for now, but I wouldn't wait too much longer. I wouldn't wait longer than 6 months.

Thanks for your input girls.
Oh -- we have have our parents and immediate family over, many times, even to help with some of the painting. Even a few very close friends, just not the extended circle. Ya know the ones you really want to impress.
We have the money for furniture, just haven't had the time to go together and pick out things for the house. Ya know, I want it to be perfect... like top to bottom perfect.
I agree with this! If you have had your family and close friends over already, then I wouldn't worry about it too much. Plan to have a big house warming in the spring, especially since then you can have the BBQ going and enjoy the patio/deck too (if you have one). And don't worry about wall to wall perfection...make the house your home!
Just wanted to chime in that we bought our in April, and I was feeling the same way about having guests over. We moved from a 1 bedroom apartment to a 3/2 house...so you can imagine the sparse furnishings!
In the end tho, my H couldn't wait til I was satisfied enough to have guests over, so he forced a little BBQ on me in mid June. I survived, and everyone LOVED the house, and it made me proud and excited to show the place off, and tell people my grand plans for the future lol.
If H hadn't forced the BBQ tho, I was inclined to do like a sushi night, and make everyone sit on pillows and blankets, or else do a indoor picnic with similar seating options. My thinking was: If I can turn this lack of seating/furniture thing into a positive themed party deal, I will feel better, and then people can shushy and finally get to see the place! Win/win
