Oklahoma food co-op

I know several of you are members. I've been thinking of joining for a while (over a year now...I'm a little indecisive), and I need some recommendations to tip me over the edge and finally join.

What are your opinions on it? Is the quality of food worth the higher prices than in grocery stores? What foods do you usually order from them? What do you still buy at the grocery store? I've only had grass-fed beef once, and the taste was noticeably different. How long did it take you to get used to the taste?

I have been very happy with pretty much everything I've gotten. The vegetables are awesome much of the time. I got the most beautiful kale last month.

I like the chicken from DARP, but H is still not too keen on it. He says it's dry. I tell him the chickens actually get to move so the muscle gets more work and has a little more "chew" to it. It's very easy to overcook this chicken.

I love the bacon, it's more like ham, at least from the provider I use. H doesn't care much for it. He does like the sausage, though.

Peachcrest Farms has lovely produce, and I highly recommend them. There are plenty of produce options this time of year.

The eggs are great, though a bit expensive. The Greek yogurt from Wagoncreek is fantastic. Our dog even begs for it.

The grass-fed beef is a little out of my price range most of the time. Yes, it has a different flavor and texture; H is undecided on it. He likes really tender meat, I don't mind chewing a little more to get real beef flavor. You just have to try it.

I still get most things from the regular grocery and supplement what I can afford from the co-op. If you join and don't like it, you get your $50 back if you leave :)

OMG, this yogurt is amazing. I had it for breakfast every day this summer with fresh fruit.

  • I know nothing about any of these, but I'm very interested. Anybody have a link for more information?

I have tried produce from 6 or so producers and beef from 3.  I actually prefer the taste of grass fed now.  I honestly can not cook ground beef from the grocery store without gagging.  I also love DARPs chicken.....  DO IT!!!!!
