Aruba Recs

Can someone recommend some things to do on the island not water-related and restaurants (casual or fine dining)? We will be staying at the Hyatt if that helps. Thanks!

Re: Aruba Recs

  • We are considering a trip to Aruba and staying at The Hyatt.  Any tips on grabbing a good deal there??  I have heard great things about El Gaucho and Madame Jannette's for restaurants.  Those are on my list!

  • The Hyatt is very nice. Get a club level room and you'll have access to all day soft drinks, bottled water and snacks. Plus, they have breakfast and heavy appetizers in the evening.

The restaurants at the hotel are ok, but not great. Windows on Aruba was delicious. There are lots of other dining choices in walking distance.

Make sure to wake up and get to the beach early. The cabanas and umbrellas go fast.

We were last there in April and it rained a good chunk of each day. Later in the summer the year before was much better.

  • The highlight of our trip was doing a jeep tour through the island.  DH got to drive the jeep for part of the tour.  It's an adventure!  The desert landscape combined with views of the sea are just amazing!  We would love to go back and experience it all again.  I think the company we went through was called "Pink Jeep" tours but you can check with your concierge at the hotel for recs.

  • We did a sunset cruise and jeep tour through the island. We also did a bus tour around the Island which is really small that takes you to baby beach which was cool. And the rest of the time was just spent at the beach and walking around town,

As  the pp noted the front desk at the hotel was really helpful with what company to go with.

  • I love Aruba.  Salt and Pepper is awesome, it is tapas but tons of different choices and inexpensive.  I love the outside area but inside is a little cooler.  It is walking distance from the Hyatt.  Casa Tua next to Salt and Pepper has great food too, only outside seating and reasonably priced.  Giannis, also walkable, had great food but they used to have a larger menu and be kid-friendly and they are not anymore so I am pissed at them but good food.  Madame Janette's is awesome and romantic a little expensive, need a car or cab but a short drive.  I know it is chain but love Texas de Brazil and walkable.  There are so many awesome restaurants walkable from the Hyatt, you could seriously avoid driving to eat.  Have fun!  Oh, and the Halencia Mall has a fountain show which is nice too.

  • We did a sunset boat ride that was a lot of fun and all day tour, which was awesome!  We got to see the whole island, stopped & snorkled at different places, etc.  We went to an Ostrich farm, got to feed them, it was neat.  Baby beach is beautiful.  Flying Fishbones is a restaurant (expensive), but it's incredible, our table was on the beach and our feet were in the water, so cool!  We also loved Texas de Brazil.  Aruba is awesome, you'll love it!

  • Papiamento was my favorite restaurant and I ate there twice on my honeymoon a few years ago. You can sit outside surrounding the inground pool or in one of the different rooms in the historical house.

  • We did a 1/2 day Jeep tour through De Palm Tours, and it was awesome.  It was a great way to see sights of the island that we might not have been able to otherwise.  We were part of a six Jeep convoy, and it was a blast!
