President's Weekend Trip Ideas

I casually mentioned to DH the other day that I have off for my birthday this year because it falls on President's Day. Yippee!  DH doesn't get off for all the federal holidays, but he said he could take the day off and asked if I wanted to go anywhere.

Insert echoing silence.

It'd be fun to do something for the long weekend, but it would have to be pretty cheap.  We're going to South Dakota in the summer and that's going to eat up most of our yearly vacation budget.

My first thought was Deep Creek and go skiing, but two things: 1. there might not be snow (that has happened before!) and 2. it will be so crowded because of the holiday.

Any suggestions on a quick trip we can take? Driving distances of under 2 hours would be ideal.  Dog friendly would be a huge perk.

Re: President's Weekend Trip Ideas

  • We went to Charlottesville for Valentine's day weekend a few years ago and it was still fun in the cold and snow. There are lots of wineries to keep you warm and it's not that far.
  • I don't think DCL is that bad over Presidents Day to be honest.  Crowded but not like Ocean City on memorial day or something ha.

Honestly I think I'd go to OC or another similar beach - a lot of the beaches are dog-friendly this time of year and I like the beach during winter. It's so different.

I like the idea of the beach in the winter! I absolutely hate the beach because I can't swim and have to hid from the sun. However, in the winter those two things are not major concerns.  Thanks!
