Any current or former competitive ice skaters on here?
I used to be a competitive figure skater ages ago growing up in the Boston area. I'm looking to get back on the ice and one of my Christmas gifts was new ice skates that I need to go pick out. I would like to go somewhere that's knowledgeable and sells a wide variety of skates. Any suggestions? I'm not going to be as competitive as I was so I don't want to spend an arm and a leg, but would like to be fitted properly so these old, creaky legs/feet aren't torn up.
Re: Any current or former competitive ice skaters on here?
Call the Ashburn Ice House and the Ice Rink in Reston, they will point you in the right direction.
On a related note, I used to ice skate growing up (just for fun) and I really want to introduce DD to it, do you think 3 yrs old is a good age to try it? Should we start with double-bladed shoes or go straight to a single blade? TIA
Thanks! No, 3 is not too young but I would try double blades and definitely use a helmet. That's what I did. I did many a tumble at that age (easier when you're low to the ground!) but, stepping on the ice for the first time was my very first childhood memory so it was definitely a great experience! At that age, just getting on the ice with her should be fun and build her confidence up for the time when she can start lessons, go to single blades... around 4 usually. Good luck!
